HYBE Staff React to Cult Accusations with Sarcasm, Public Opinion Manipulation Suspected?

On April 30, TenAsia reported that an employee had posted on the HYBE board of the anonymous workplace community Blind, which requires company email verification. The post claimed that HYBE employees are allegedly brainwashed into a cult called Dahn World by participating in daily meditation and yoga sessions. The post also mentioned the amusing conspiracy theories surrounding the company.

The report states that a different employee made the comment, “I’m laughing ironically; I didn’t realize I felt so strongly about this. It all seems ridiculous.”

After reading these posts, employees from other HYBE labels commented in a seemingly mocking manner, with phrases like “That’s hilarious. Let us have some time in the morning for yoga and meditation. I want to join too,”and “Make sure you don’t miss the 9 a.m. meditation session.”

Moreover, there are allegations that Min Hee-jin, the CEO of HYBE-affiliated label ADOR, may have employed the use of a public relations company to influence public perception, with certain sources speculating that they were involved in conducting online PR campaigns.

According to one employee, the company is allegedly utilizing an online PR firm to manipulate public opinion. They voiced their displeasure, questioning the expertise of these online PR firms in public opinion manipulation and wondering if it is acceptable to simply accept this practice. They expressed that it would be unfair unless one is in the same industry, as otherwise, one would likely believe it without questioning.

Nevertheless, these claims are only accusations and there is no proof of ADOR’s involvement in influencing public perception.

Earlier, HYBE initiated an internal investigation when suspicions arose regarding CEO Min and ADOR’s management trying to take over the label.

During an emergency press conference on the 25th, CEO Min refuted accusations of attempting to take control. The conference also revealed a KakaoTalk message hinting at threats associated with NewJeans’ “OMG”music video content, which caused a commotion.

Afterward, several netizens alleged that the “OMG”music video by NewJeans includes material that criticizes HYBE’s connection to Dahn World.

On the 29th, HYBE declared their intention to actively investigate and clarify any doubts surrounding Dahn World, demonstrating their commitment to providing explanations.

An official statement was released on the same day on the BTS official Weverse addressing efforts to damage BTS’s image and spread false rumors. The statement also stated that legal measures would be pursued against those responsible for such actions.

Additionally, in response to concerns that Global Cyber University, where all BTS members except Jin obtained their degrees, had ties to Dahn World, the university denied any involvement and clarified that the members had enrolled prior to their debut and rise to fame as BTS.
