Hybe’s Attempt to Pressure NewJeans into Adding 100,000 Albums to Beat Aespa’s Record, Despite Min Hee-jin’s Rejection?

Recently, ADOR CEO Min Hee-jin released a statement criticizing HYBE. She pointed out that the company is contributing to the unethical practices prevalent in the industry without facing any consequences. Additionally, she mentioned the lack of transparency in HYBE’s governance structure, which has resulted in negative effects on NewJeans.

One of the most prominent instances of this issue is HYBE’s manipulation of album sales. This deceitful practice has faced backlash from shareholders, members, the capital market, and the fandom. Despite being a top company in the industry, HYBE’s obsession with numbers has led them to resort to this problematic tactic for album releases.

Min Hee-jin stated that HYBE urged NewJeans to “release more albums.”When NewJeans released their album “Get Up,”HYBE recommended that they also release an additional 100,000 copies, believing that they could surpass aespa’s 1st week sales record.

Despite being offered, Min Hee-jin firmly declined the offer as it contradicts ADOR’s business principles.

The ADOR CEO explained her decision to decline HYBE’s offer of “inflated album sales,”saying, “I am worried that the genuine accomplishments of NewJeans in achieving first place may be compromised, potentially affecting the numerous business opportunities that have stemmed from those achievements.”

Moreover, Min Hee-jin stated that if the problem of inflating album sales gains more attention in the future, even NewJeans, who had consistently rejected this strategy, could be wrongly perceived as having utilized it to boost their records due to their affiliation with HYBE as an artist.

“Min Hee-jin emphasized that HYBE should not only focus on promoting groups with high album sales such as NewJeans, but also consider the success and treatment of other groups under their label. She highlighted the need for ethical awareness within HYBE and urged for a thorough investigation to address any potential issues of conditional transactions and inflated album sales within the label’s subsidiaries. She believes that these matters should be handled with strictness and transparency.”

Conversely, HYBE has refuted these allegations made by Min Hee-jin.
