A post titled “ILLIT Admits to Plagiarism” was published on the Korean forum Pann Nate on May 23, garnering nearly 130,000 views.
The article, which was published on April 19, delved into the topic and featured HYBE’s disclosure of the inspiration behind ILLIT.
HYBE’s Chairman Bang Si-hyuk was the ILLIT producer and oversaw the creation of the girl group’s debut song “Magnetic”. He worked closely with teenage producers to infuse the tracks with a playful and youthful atmosphere, incorporating elements of “kitsch”and “girlish”vibes into catchy melodies. It was also reported that the ILLIT members adhered to the popular Y2K fashion trend, sporting long straight hair, oversized denim pants, plaid shirts, and hip-hugging skirts and shorts.
Moreover, it was mentioned that ILLIT incorporated choreography elements from senior groups at HYBE, such as a step from LE SSERAFIM’s “Easy”and the hair-flicking and hand rotation moves in HYBE’s “Attention”and “Ditto”performed by NewJeans.
After reading the article, netizens have inundated the topic with negative feedback towards HYBE. Here are a few comments from netizens:
- HYBE are always trying to pit the public against NewJeans and Min Hee-jin to the point where it is ridiculous. They are even targeting Minji with the kalguksu comments.
- So they are eating their own words… They directly admitted to using move to NewJeans and now they file a lawsuit?
- The signature NewJeans move of flipping their hair during “Attention”remains a defining aspect of the group. Despite being a new group, NewJeans quickly became recognized for this move.
- HYBE is so desperate in media play they are digging up groups from 20 years ago just to drag NewJeans
- They basically admitted to the plagiarism LOL
