Hyped it up for nothing – One Piece fandom at war with itself after Egghead Incident is confirmed over

Despite the unfortunate break for One Piece this week, fans were able to obtain some new information regarding the series. The editor’s comment in the latest issue of Weekly Shonen Jump revealed that the Egghead Incident has been resolved and will continue into chapter 1125, following the official release of chapter 1124 on Monday, August 26th, 2024.

It is understandable that the One Piece fandom has become divided, with some fans believing that the highly anticipated Egghead Incident did not live up to their expectations. On the other hand, there are those who argue that the event was not meant to shock readers but instead to impact the in-series world, and in that aspect, it was successful.

Oda’s handling of One Piece’s Egghead Incident has seemingly left a sour taste in some fans’ mouths

The Egghead Incident, as described in the One Piece manga, was said to “shock the world”and marked the end of a series of events that had been building up. The latest editor comment has confirmed that the Incident has concluded, revealing that the death of Dr. Vegapunk and his subsequent announcement were the main events. This announcement provided significant new information about the Void Century, and also warned both readers and the world about the impending flooding.

It is also probable that the Egghead Incident encompasses the epic confrontation at Egghead where the Straw Hats and their comrades emerged victorious against a formidable Marine fleet, including the powerful Gorosei. While they received support from Emeth, who harnessed Joy Boy’s Conqueror’s Haki at a crucial point, this event is likely included under the broader term of the Egghead Incident.

It would also be logical for the rank and file Marines present on Egghead Island during One Piece’s latest arc to be shocked by such a feat. Although they do not represent the entire world of the series, they are a significant part of it. Additionally, Imu’s reaction to the reveal of Joy Boy’s Conqueror’s Haki further reinforces this interpretation of the term “Egghead Incident.”

Fan Response

Despite everything the arc did well and right, some fans are still not satisfied and argue that it was not enough. They are expressing disappointment and questioning the incident or sharing their specific issues with it. Others are simply commenting on how the arc did not meet their expectations and moving on.

“Bro I thought the incident was gonna be something crazier [broken heart emoji] we move tho [crying laughing emoji, peace sign emoji],” briefly lamented one fan.

“SERIOUSLY? I THOUGHT THE TWIST WAS GONNA BE A BIG TWIST????,” angrily questioned another.

“So what was the incident? The broadcast or Vegapunk dying?,” more calmly inquired a third.

Some, on the other hand, are standing up for the fact that the Egghead Incident has concluded and affirming that it fulfilled its promises and necessary purpose.

“It makes the most sense that the incident that would “Shock the world” was the world sinking and that it was caused by a man made weapon. That was it,” pointed out one netizen.

“The [series’] world got shocked by the broadcast right so that must be the conclusion since the sh won technically against the gorosei,” argued another.

“Everyone who read the manga chapters of the Egghead arc rather than just the brief spoilers knew that,” claimed a third.

“It was shocked for the OP world. It’s that simple,” concluded a fourth.

Despite the divisive reception of the Egghead Incident and other elements of the arc, it is evident that the community was greatly affected by the events. As the Elbaf arc approaches and the manga returns on Monday, September 9, it is hoped that the series’ community will come together once more and eagerly anticipate the future.
