Following accusations of copying NewJeans, ILLIT is now confronted with allegations of plagiarizing from EXO.
Recently, ILLIT has been embroiled in controversy following accusations made by ADOR CEO Min Hee Jin against HYBE and BELIFT Lab for allegedly copying NewJeans’ concept for ILLIT’s debut. This feud has garnered increased attention for ILLIT as they continue with their debut promotions amidst the ongoing drama.
Unfortunately, they are currently facing allegations of imitating another group.
ILLIT Posts Tweet Following ‘Lucky Girl Syndrome’ Performance on ‘Inkigayo’
On April 21, 2024, ILLIT shared photos of the girls on their official X (formerly Twitter) account. They are currently promoting not only their debut track “Magnetic,”but also their b-sidetrack “Lucky Girl Syndrome.”
The tweet includes photos of the girls forming an L with their fingers.
[ #DAILY_IT ] I think all words with L in them are beautiful..Love, Lucky, ILLIT and.. Their tweet discusses the beauty of all worlds containing the letter L. They provided examples such as Love, Lucky, ILLIT, and LILLYs.
For context, LILLYs used to be known as ILLIT’s fandom name, but after receiving criticism, they have decided to rename it. This decision was made due to the fact that there is already a member named Lily in NMIXX and BLACKPINK’s Lisa has a solo fandom called Lillies.
In their tweet, they mention feeling reassured by the love they have received from LILLYs and express their intention to continue showering them with unwavering affection.
Despite the tweet being warm and heartfelt, EXO-Ls quickly responded with backlash, accusing ILLIT of copying EXO.
Accusations of EXO Copying by ILLIT
Ever since the announcement of their fandom name, EXO-L, EXO has utilized the L hand symbol as a representation of their group and fanbase.
Lay employs the L hand symbol to represent multiple meanings, including references to EXO, EXO-Ls, and his own name.
It’s been 12 years since EXO did Elpose… Why do rookies still pose to greet their fans? There are many different poses you can do to greet your fans, so stop using the pose to take pictures!! A pose that only EXO can do!!😡👉👉👉👉 pic.twitter.com/Sfwhq27Fag

L is a EXO L and Lay sign Are you kidding???

Despite EXO’s 12-year presence in the industry, EXO-Ls have a difficult time accepting that BELIFT Lab and HYBE Labels were unaware of the hand gesture commonly used by the group.
Despite being inexperienced, the company and ILLIT were heavily criticized for their actions of “shamelessly stealing”from their superiors.
Stop copying other groups’ names and things: mission failed miserably. That’s the Love, Lay sign. pic.twitter.com/MRRE2KUOHF

Some EXO-Ls argue that ILLIT is capable of performing numerous other poses and are calling for an end to the use of the “L”hand symbol, stating that it should be exclusively reserved for EXO.
