“I don’t want to watch whenever you’re on screen” – The Painful Experience of Park Sung-hoon on ‘Queen of Tears’

On May 20th, Singles magazine sparked interest with the release of a pictorial featuring Park Sung-hoon, known for his role as Yoon Eun-sung in tvN’s hit drama “Queen of Tears”, which holds the record for the highest viewership rating on the network.

“With a remarkable viewership rating of 24.9%, “Queen of Tears”has become the highest-rated drama in the history of tvN. According to Park Sung-hoon, the success of the show was expected due to its writer Park Ji-eun’s previous works. However, the overwhelming love and support from viewers has exceeded his expectations and he couldn’t be prouder and happier.”

To accurately portray the character of Yoon Eun-sung, Park Sung-hoon revealed that he put in extra effort to distinguish her from his previous role as Jeon Jae-joon in “The Glory” . He shared, “While Jeon Jae-joon had a flamboyant and charming demeanor, I aimed for a softer and more refined approach with Yoon Eun-sung. I also adjusted my voice; Jeon Jae-joon spoke with a higher pitch and exaggerated emphasis, while Yoon Eun-sung’s tone was deeper and more subdued.”

When questioned about the reception of his performance as the antagonist Yoon Eun-sung, Park Sung-hoon made a humorous response stating, “I frequently received remarks such as ‘I can’t watch whenever you appear’ and ‘You always make me sigh’.”

After a 7-year absence, Park Sung-hoon will be making his comeback to the Daehakro stage with the play “Bread” . In reference to the production, he expressed, “I am feeling a sense of nervousness due to the play’s lengthy duration of over 3 hours and extensive amount of dialogue. However, I am also filled with excitement and a sense of responsibility towards the audience, which is motivating me to practice diligently.”

When questioned about the factors that contributed to his development, he openly acknowledged, “It was a combination of low self-esteem and financial struggles. The need for financial stability motivated me to pursue opportunities, while my sense of inadequacy in my acting skills drove me to take on numerous projects, propelling my growth.”
