Many Netflix users may be questioning the sudden rise of iconic slasher series Dexter on the top 10 chart. However, a recent revelation could provide an explanation.
Thanks to the streaming service, we now have an abundance of incredible TV shows to choose from, but in 2006, Dexter was the dominant show.
Starring Dexter Morgan, a man who leads a double life and struggles with homicidal tendencies, the Showtime series aired until 2013. However, it is now experiencing a resurgence on Netflix, most likely due to the anticipation of its upcoming prequel.
Dexter: Original Sin, the highly anticipated continuation of the beloved series, promises the same level of rewatchability for those who enjoy binge-watching. Similar to Grey’s Anatomy, the show has attracted a medical icon, Patrick Dempsey, to join the cast.

According to Variety, Paramount is excited to have someone on board who knows how to engage the audience, and fans are already expressing the same level of excitement.
“One Twitter user expressed their hope that the new addition, Patrick, will be just as good as the original. Another Twitter user agreed, noting that it was exciting to see McDreamy in a new job.”
Although it has been some time since he was in the ER, McDreamy, the nickname given to Dempsey’s Grey’s Anatomy character Dr. Derek Shepherd, remains a beloved figure despite his tragic death in Season 11 of the popular medical drama.
One fan commented on his Dexter role, stating, “This is what he deserves for killing Derek.”
In the upcoming show Original Sin, Dempsey has been cast as Aaron Spencer, the Captain of the Miami Metro Homicide. He has a long-standing connection with Harry Morgan, played by Christian Slater. The series will chronicle Dexter’s journey from being a student to becoming a vengeful serial killer in 1991.
As of now, the release date for Dexter: Original Sin is still unknown. However, viewers can currently stream all eight seasons of the main show on Netflix while waiting for its debut.
