If you don’t like fights, read shojo – Jujutsu Kaisen, Bleach communities unite vs Hunter x Hunter fan who claims both are all fights, no story

Jujutsu Kaisen and Bleach are both highly acclaimed manga series that have gained popularity worldwide. Despite their respective fandoms often clashing over the quality of their storylines, they have recently united in response to a Hunter x Hunter fan’s claim that “battle shonen”manga primarily focus on fights without any meaningful plot.

The works of Tite Kubo and Gege Akutami have gained widespread acclaim for their ability to convey intricate lore and compelling character development through seemingly ordinary conversations, leading up to intense battles. As a result, the two fan bases have united in response to the fans’ statements.

Fans of Jujutsu Kaisen and Bleach defend against Hunter x Hunter fan’s claim

Despite their recent anime adaptations, both the Bleach and Jujutsu Kaisen fandoms have gained significant attention. Jujutsu Kaisen is currently one of the most popular series in the world. While the two fandoms may argue over which has superior storytelling and fight scenes, it is widely recognized that the character development and plot arcs in both series lead to an ultimate clash between two characters and their beliefs.

A Hunter x Hunter fan recently argued that battle shonen series, such as Tite Kubo and Gege Akutami’s works, lack substance and a cohesive plot outside of their extravagant fights. While some fans supported this claim, followers of the mentioned series were quick to counter with evidence that disproved this statement.

Fan Responses to the Post

Some fans praised Bleach’s Fullbring arc and Jujutsu Kaisen’s Hidden Inventory arc, noting their significant contributions to the overall story and world-building of each series. One fan also argued that it would be contradictory to read a “battle shonen”series if one dislikes fight scenes, suggesting instead to try a Shojo genre which places more emphasis on character development.

Some other fans also noted that both series offer more than just fights, but they often face criticism because it has become a trend to do so on social media platforms.

“Bleach and jjk have much more to offer than fights but you can’t see that. You refuse to look deeper and just want to sh** on the shoe cause it’s more popular,”a fan claimed.

“The fights are the medium of communication in the battle shonen mangas. Why would you even come to the shonen genre and not expect fights to be main highlight?”another fan asked.

Several other fans have also noted that Gege Akutami and Tite Kubo’s series heavily rely on fights to convey their narratives, in contrast to Hunter x Hunter which often reveals important details through lengthy text passages.

“hxh fans when a battle shonen manga has battles that tell stories instead of characters expositing at each other for pages,”one fan said.

“JJK really is about to go through that same dark period Bleach did simply because for some reason a strong amount of people can’t read,”another fan said.

It is expected that Jujutsu Kaisen will conclude in September 2024 after the release of chapter 271. Meanwhile, the Bleach series has already concluded, but there are speculations of a potential Hell arc. The Hunter x Hunter series will also be releasing a new chapter on October 7, 2024.

Despite the variations in storytelling among these series, it should be noted that battles will always remain the primary focus in the “battle shonen”subgenre.
