ILLIT Accused of Plagiarizing EXO, Adding to Plagiarism Controversy

Since their debut, girl group ILLIT has consistently been embroiled in a “plagiarism controversy.”

Specifically, the group faced accusations of copying NewJeans’ concept and having strikingly similar choreography to both NewJeans and LE SSERAFIM upon their debut. In addition, when the girl group revealed their fandom name as “LILLY”, they received backlash for it being too similar to NMIXX’s Lily and bearing a strong resemblance to the unofficial name of BLACKPINK’s Lisa’s fanbase, “LILLIES”.

The ILLIT-NewJeans copying issue was so severe that it ultimately sparked the HYBE-ADOR feud that is still ongoing today.

Although it has been a recent occurrence, it appears that ILLIT is currently dealing with another instance of plagiarism controversy.

Following ILLIT’s performance on April 21 on Inkigayo, the group posted photos on the social media platform X. Among the three photos, one featured the group making an L hand gesture, which is assumed to represent the double Ls in their group name.

The “L” hand sign has been used by EXO for an extended period to symbolize the group’s fanbase – EXO-L.

Consequently, the photo of all ILLIT members making the hand sign sparked controversy among EXO fans, who accused ILLIT of “copying”EXO’s “L”hand symbol.

“ILLIT was even described in a harsh tone by a fan as a group based on plagiarism.”

The source of the information is Krb, as stated in a tweet from the official ILLIT Twitter account with the link to the post being “X”.
