ImperialHal and iiTzTimmy Express Concerns about the Future of Apex Legends

As of now, Season 23 of Apex Legends has seen a significant drop in its player base, peaking at approximately 225,000 concurrent players on Steam. This figure is almost three times lower than its peak in February 2023 and marks the first time since January 2021 that the average number of concurrent players has dipped below 100,000.

While exact figures from console platforms remain undisclosed, it is reasonable to infer that the decline in player engagement is not just limited to PC. It is likely that console users are experiencing a similar trend, suggesting a broader issue affecting the overall gaming community.

Concerns from the Community

Prominent content creators in the Apex Legends community, such as iiTzTimmy and ImperialHal, have expressed their concerns regarding the game’s current trajectory. Timmy shared his perspective on the challenges faced by content creators, stating, “As the game ages, it becomes increasingly difficult to maintain viewer engagement because familiar content becomes less exhilarating.”

He emphasized that without a substantial overhaul of the game’s mechanics, characters, and weapons, the game risks losing its fresh appeal. “The game is currently very competition-driven,”he noted, emphasizing that most viewership is centered on scrims or tournaments rather than casual play.

“I Am Pretty Afraid”

ImperialHal, who has firmly established himself within the Apex Legends realm, echoed Timmy’s sentiments. “I am pretty afraid,”he commented, noting, “In recent months, there’s been a visible lack of innovation and engagement from the developers.” He highlighted his frustration, saying, “While Apex acknowledges the decline, they have yet to demonstrate any meaningful changes that suggest a positive direction.”

Content and Competition Challenges

Despite recent updates in Season 23, which included a rework of the Support class, buffs for various support Legends, and the return of classic elements from early Apex Legends, Hal contended that these changes fall short of what is necessary to compete with other major titles like Call of Duty and Valorant.

Hal articulated the fundamental issues plaguing the game, asserting, “The core systems need significant improvements—not just character reworks. The ranked system and content delivery are currently lacking.”He pointed out that even minimal efforts can make a difference, stating, “Failing to keep pace with industry standards is causing steady decline.”

Path to Recovery

While both Timmy and Hal believe Apex Legends has the potential to regain its former glory, they agree that the developers must prioritize improvements to the game’s core systems. For now, their goal is to halt the downward trend.

When discussing character balancing, both creators suggested enhancing the abilities of all Legends and refining reworked characters. They also advocated for a true solo queue mode in Ranked play as an essential enhancement, despite concerns that the game may not be adequately prepared for such a feature.

As Apex Legends navigates these challenges, Timmy and Hal remain committed to supporting the game as it evolves, ready to face whatever comes next.
