WIT Studio is currently receiving advice from Eiichiro Oda as they work on the One Piece anime remake.
The highly anticipated One Piece Day 2024 took place on August 10 and 11, where fans were treated to a sneak peek of the WIT Studio remake through concept art and character designs. The project is being spearheaded by the same team behind Attack on Titan, causing excitement among fans.
The remake will evoke feelings of nostalgia by commencing with the beloved East Blue Saga from the manga. This is where Luffy encounters his crew and embarks on his epic journey towards the Grand Line.
Despite not having a direct hand in the live-action One Piece, Eiichro Oda will still not be overseeing the anime remake. However, he continues to show support for the studio and has offered his guidance during the One Piece Day livestream.
During his visit to WIT Studio, he shared a valuable piece of advice with the remake anime staff: instead of simply remaking the manga of One Piece, they should interpret it and create their own unique version.
Fans appreciate the fresh perspective brought to the work. According to one fan, “To me, One Piece depicts the actual events with every little detail. This new adaptation almost feels like a retelling of the story many years down the line.”
“According to another, many outspoken anime fans are opposed to taking shortcuts when adapting manga into anime. It is likely that most significant battles will only span 1 to 3 episodes at the most. Another year-long battle like Luffy vs Kaido is unnecessary.”
Another also expresses admiration for Oda’s mentality, stating that it is rare for an author to give such freedom to their staff and encourage them to create a unique adaptation that differs from the original. They also praise WIT Studio for their ability to faithfully and stylishly adapt works.
