Important bug in Act 2 of Baldur’s Gate 3 causes crucial allies to become ineffective

One player has uncovered the explanation for the lack of strength in Jaheira’s Harpers in Baldur’s Gate 3, resulting in you having to take on the brunt of battles.

The Harpers of Baldur’s Gate 3 are a group of allies who will assist you during different encounters in the Shadow Cursed Lands. Although they have good intentions, occasionally NPCs do not make the best decisions.

Sometimes, whether you charge in alone or get attacked from opportunity attacks, these things may happen due to factors beyond your control. In the best case scenario, you should consider yourself fortunate if they do not unintentionally aggro themselves while moving towards your spell.

Despite feeling unsatisfied with the assistance provided by the Harpers during Act 2, it has recently been revealed by user NCBlizzard in a Reddit thread that the faction has been bugged since its initial release. So, there is a valid explanation for the underwhelming support from the Harpers.

Baldur’s Gate 3’s Act 2 will eventually lead you to raid the Moonrise Towers.

The player explained that the Harpers are currently facing a problem where they are unable to execute their extra attack. They attributed this issue to Larian’s inclusion of an invisible tag called EXTRA_ATTACK_BLOCKED in the code, which seems to have been given to almost every Harper and Fist in Act 2.

Certain classes in Baldur’s Gate 3, such as Fighters and Rangers, face a significant challenge as they heavily rely on and gain advantages from additional actions.

The user also reported minor bugs that they had discovered, including one where a Harper character had the abilities and spells of a ranger, despite being a human wizard and unable to use any magic.

Despite the Harpers depending on extra attack in combat and dealing with minor bugs, it’s not surprising that their “performance”is affected by these factors.

Despite this, the backup and failsafe Harpers, as well as those in Act 3, do not have the label EXTRA_ATTACK_BLOCKED, enabling them to perform extra attacks. This inconsistency suggests that it may be an unintentional bug.

In September, Patch 7 will bring a significant update including new evil endings, mod support, and bug fixes. For the time being, players will still need to depend on their party for the majority of their gameplay.
