Important Warning for Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Players from Tatsugiri Shiny Hunters

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s most recent Mass Outbreak highlights the sushi-inspired Tatsugiri, but be careful as one wrong move could potentially ruin your chances at catching a Shiny Tatsugiri. Luckily, fellow players have shared various solutions to assist in avoiding any disappointment during your Shiny Tatsugiri hunt.

Despite the rarity of Shinies, there is nothing more devastating in any Pokemon game than encountering one and having it faint and disappear before you can catch it.

The ongoing Mass Outbreak, featuring the Mimicry Pokemon Tatsugiri, has generated excitement among players since its announcement. However, now that it has gone live and will continue until August 8, 2024, players have noticed that one of its moves has the potential to disrupt their Shiny hunting efforts.

Wild Tatsugiri at levels 34 to 51 possess the ability to use Memento, a move that greatly decreases the opponent’s stats but results in the user fainting.

Fortunately, the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet community has shared tips to prevent Memento from turning Shiny hunting into a Nightmare, ensuring that you won’t lose a rare Shiny Tatsugiri to its own moveset.

User ‘goldengeep’ shared the warning about Memento and offered some useful tips in a Reddit post on the page for Pokemon Scarlet Violet.

The most effective way to prevent Tatsugiri from using Memento is to use Taunt with your Pokemon, as this move prevents the target from using any status moves. However, keep in mind that this effect only lasts for three turns (or four if the target moves first), so it will be necessary to reapply Taunt once it wears off.

Trainers should also ensure that their chosen Pokemon is faster than Tatsugiri in order to prevent it from using Memento on its first turn.

One alternative is to have your Pokemon learn the moves Imprison and Memento. Imprison prohibits opponents from using any moves that the user possesses, and this restriction remains in effect for as long as the user remains active in the battle.

The poster suggests choosing Gallade and Drifblim, but Mismagius, Sinistcha, and Pecharunt are also viable choices.

In addition, there are alternative methods to render Memento ineffective, such as utilizing Gholdengo’s Good as Gold ability, which grants immunity to status moves.

As Tatsugiri is aware of Memento, this poses a challenge for Shiny hunters. However, there are numerous methods available to prevent trainers from experiencing a catastrophic defeat.
