In the competitive landscape of Pokémon TCG Pocket, the arrival of the Mythical Island expansion has brought about significant shifts in the meta. However, one beloved Generation 1 Pokémon continues to face challenges in the current play environment.
The Mythical Island expansion has introduced decks that are both powerful and innovative, such as the anti-meta Scolipede deck and the high-damage Celebi ex. As a result, PvP battles are often dominated by these new strategies, while established favorites like Pikachu ex and Mewtwo ex stubbornly remain relevant.
Snorlax: The Slumbering Giant in Battle
Despite its vast popularity, Snorlax has found itself operating from the shadows of Pokémon TCG Pocket. With a basic structure of 150 HP, this Pokémon boasts an attack that requires a hefty investment of four energy for a mere 70 damage. Adding to its difficulties, Snorlax lacks any special abilities and suffers from a high retreat cost that demands four energy to exit the field.
As many players have pointed out, Snorlax’s limitations make it an inefficient choice for both damage per second (DPS) and for sustaining heavy attacks on the field. The four-energy retreat cost can quickly deplete vital resources, including both Leaf Supporter and two X Retreat cards, further complicating its usage in battle.
When juxtaposed with other basic Pokémon, Snorlax appears less effective. For instance, cards like Tauros can effectively target ex cards, while Druddigon excels at damage stalling. Meanwhile, Lickitung offers an unlimited coinflip attack, and Kangaskhan can deal knockout damage right from the first turn. In this context, it’s clear why players prefer alternatives over the slumbering giant.
On platforms like Reddit, fans have expressed their frustrations. One user lamented over Snorlax’s ineffectiveness, stating, “Yup, it’s a shame that Lax’s first card in Pocket had to be such a travesty.” They reflected on the Jungle Snorlax, which, while not perfect, at least kept up with some unique abilities during its time.
The community remains hopeful for future expansions. As one passionate fan expressed, “Wouldn’t mind a Snorlax ex in the next set or even just a new basic one.” Such sentiments highlight an enduring affection for Snorlax, despite its current shortcomings in TCG Pocket. There is a strong desire to revitalize this classic Pokémon with updated mechanics that reflect its beloved status among trainers.
As we look forward to upcoming updates and enhancements within the Pokémon TCG Pocket, fans are eager to see if Snorlax will finally receive the improvements it desperately needs.
