A new report from Jeffrey Sneider claims to know the release schedule for new Star Wars films at Lucasfilm.
During the 2023 Star Wars Celebration, Lucasfilm announced three new feature films for theaters, intended to enrich the canon of the saga initiated by George Lucas. A sequel centered on Rey after the Rise of Skywalker, a story on the origins of the Jedi Order, as well as a crossover on the New Republic have thus appeared on the radars.
This trio of projects therefore joins other productions announced even longer, but for which news is still rare: the films of Taika Waititi, the trilogy of Rian Johnson or even an opus by Shawn Levy – who is currently busy with the highly anticipated Deadpool 3.
To all this happy group was added an outsider, straight out of one of the most popular series from the distant galaxy: Mando and baby Yoda are indeed going have their own feature film on the big screen, already titled The Mandalorian & Grogu. On the occasion of its announcement, Lucasfilm even stated that it was this last film that was being given priority.
The release order of the next Star Wars films… according to Sneider’s calculations
So many announcements, but you have to know how to plan ahead to imagine the final result. Spectators should never forget that such projects can be nipped in the bud or reworked at any time: knowing their release date is still a long way off. Yet journalist Jeffrey Sneider offered his own timeline in his latest newsletter, offering at least an order of release:
- The Mandalorian & Grogu (by Jon Favreau)
- Star Wars: New Jedi Order* (de Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy avec Daisy Ridley)
- Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi* (de James Mangold)
- Film about the New Republic (by Dave Filoni)
- (*Titles not confirmed)
The journalist – usually very knowledgeable about what goes on behind the scenes of very big American productions – echoed reports that New Jedi Order would still be around, with Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy directing and Steven Knight writing the screenplay. But he insists on the fact that its development has fallen behind schedule, a delay according to him due above all to the prioritization of The Mandalorian & Grogu rather than because of a controversy over the director.
He also justifies Dawn of the Jedi’s place before the New Republic film by citing Dave Filoni’s heavy workload. Because as he rightly points out, the producer and showrunner is already busy with the production of The Mandalorian & Grogu andAhsoka season 2 on Disney+. It therefore seems more likely that James Mangold’s feature film will be released before Dave Filoni’s film.
A big check for Star Wars’ Daisy Ridley?
In addition to detailing the likely release order of the new Star Wars films, Jeffrey Sneider included another interesting tidbit in his report: Daisy Ridley’s salary.
According to her agency contacts, the English actress should receive a check for $12.5 million to reprise her role as Rey.
It’s a nice sum which, if accurate, reflects a certain eagerness on Lucasfilm to convince the actress to return aboard the franchise.
For her part, Daisy Ridley maintains that what ultimately attracted her to return was the quality of the proposed storyline, promising fans an “exciting” story.
