The indie gaming scene is currently abuzz with excitement for a new solo-developed title informally known as ‘Dark Souls with Dinosaurs.’ This project, officially named Dinoblade, is generating anticipation as it embraces an action RPG format that features thrilling, animation-driven combat showcasing sword-wielding dinosaurs.
The Rise of Dinoblade
Dinoblade stems from the creative vision of indie developer Jean Nguyen, known on social media platforms as JeanAnimate. It all started with simple animation tests that unexpectedly went viral, prompting an overwhelming demand from fans for Nguyen to transform these animations into a fully playable game.
Since then, Nguyen has been keeping the community informed through consistent updates on X and TikTok, showcasing incremental developments. His updates often feature new dinosaur designs, weaponry, and exciting finishing moves, drawing millions of likes and cultivating a robust following eager for the game’s release.
Dinoblade is now available to Steam Wishlist! Started out as just animations for my demo reel, to gaining so much attention to make a game out of it so here we are. Dinoblade has been in development for a little over 1 year now and wishlisting it will help alot! Thank you all! pic.twitter.com/rDtjC6CiWG

The Unique Appeal of Dinoblade
One of the most captivating aspects of Dinoblade is its potential parallels with other recent indie hits that have defied expectations. The project exhibits a similar grassroots development style to that seen in the upcoming contender for Game of the Year, Belatro, as well as the easily marketable premise of Palworld, which was cheekily dubbed ‘Pokemon with Guns’ by its fanbase.
While the catchy ‘Dark Souls with Dinosaurs’ tagline certainly piques interest, the game’s mechanics appear to draw more inspiration from other action titles like Sekiro or Lies of P, especially evident in the showcased parry mechanics. Moreover, the visually spectacular concept of dinosaurs engaging in epic battles with enormous swords cannot be overlooked—it’s undeniably thrilling!
Although my own preference would have been to name it Dinoswords, that won’t deter us from eagerly anticipating its arrival. As of now, Dinoblade has no confirmed release date, but its recent addition to Steam is a promising indicator of its progress.
