On August 9th (local time), Allkpop published an article stating that Seungri was scheduled to appear at an event in Indonesia on the 31st called “Burning Sun Surabaya” . The event was organized by TVS Management, an overseas event management agency. The news quickly sparked backlash from netizens, who criticized Seungri for participating in an event with the same name as his ongoing scandal.
Despite the release of a report about the Burning Sun club event on the 11th, Seungri maintained his stance by stating to Daily Sports that the report was completely false. He made it clear by emphasizing, “I am unaware of the source of this news and I have no intention of participating as a guest.”
Amid the growing controversy, Gentlemens Club, the organizers of the event, ultimately decided to issue an apology video on Instagram and ultimately cancel the planned event. They expressed remorse towards Korean music fans, particularly K-pop artists and their devoted fanbases, for the recent poster posted on the official SNS account of TSV Management. They further clarified that there have been numerous misinterpretations and misconceptions in media coverage and reports concerning the post.
Despite explaining that their intention was to promote safety at clubs and parties, the club has decided to cancel their event due to the controversy surrounding their poster. They clarified that the poster did not mention inviting Seungri and the title “Burning Sun Surabaya”was meant to remind people to stay safe. Additionally, the message “The new chapter is born”was meant as a reminder that the Burning Sun issue can occur at any time and place. However, in light of the misunderstanding caused by the poster, the club has decided to cancel the event.
Despite the club’s insistence that they did not invite Seungri, the inclusion of his name and the caption “Best Honor”on the poster led to widespread misunderstanding that he would be appearing at the club. No apology was given for this issue.
Seungri has announced that he will be pursuing legal action against the club in response to their actions. According to Dialy Sports, Seungri expressed that the club’s apology was not genuine as it only addressed the negative impact on the local night club scene, rather than acknowledging their use of his name and image without permission. He also stated that the club’s claims of not inviting him were simply an attempt to avoid being sued. Seungri’s team emphasized that they are currently preparing to file a complaint and will be taking legal action in the coming week.
Despite denying rumors of running a club overseas, Seungri faced criticism when he was seen at a club in Bali, Indonesia the following day. Reports suggested that he and his friends had approached Korean female tourists, but Seungri refuted these claims and clarified that the women were his acquaintances. He acknowledged that he had been seen clubbing frequently, but also felt it was unfair as he was simply trying to enjoy his vacation with friends like any other ordinary person.
In 2020, Seungri caused uproar when he was identified as a perpetrator in the Burning Sun Scandal. He was subsequently sentenced to prison on nine charges and has already served one and a half years of his sentence.
