Infamous Serial Killer John Wayne Gacy Gets His Own Series on Peacock

Peacock’s newest limited series will focus on John Wayne Gacy, one of America’s most notorious serial killers. The lead role has already been cast for this highly-anticipated TV adaptation.

The public has always been fascinated by serial killers, from the infamous Night Stalker to the recent television series Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story. According to an article by ComicBook, Peacock has officially revealed a new limited series entitled Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy.

The limited series, featuring Michael Chernus as Gacy, draws inspiration from Peacock’s docuseries John Wayne Gacy: Devil in Disguise.

Despite appearing to be a normal family man and working as a clown named Pogo, Gacy gained notoriety in the 1970s as a despicable serial killer who preyed on young boys. The book Devil in Disguise chronicles the years in which Gacy evaded detection by authorities, during which 33 boys went missing. It was only later that their remains were found in the killer’s home, hidden in the crawl space.

According to Peacock, “Devil In Disguise”delves into the complex life of John Wayne Gacy, shedding light on his disturbing actions and also sharing the heartbreaking experiences of his primarily gay victims. It examines the anguish, remorse, and distress felt by their loved ones, as well as the flaws in the system, missed chances, and societal biases that contributed to Gacy’s reign of terror.

Despite the growing popularity of dramatizations about serial killers, their release has not been without controversy.

The series was criticized for altering the details of the victims’ stories and not obtaining consent from living family members.

Despite this, Chernus reassured fans that the Peacock series stands apart from others.

The actor stated, “Although Gacy was responsible for committing these heinous acts, I am grateful that the series will not primarily focus on him. It saddens me to imagine the potential futures of his victims (who were all young men and boys) had the system not tragically failed them.”

“I have faith in the impact of storytelling and am hopeful that by sharing this narrative in a considerate manner, we can contribute to preventing a similar occurrence in the future.”

Patrick Macmanus has been appointed as the showrunner, writer, and executive producer for John Wayne Gacy: Devil in Disguise. However, an official release date for the show has not been announced yet.
