On New Year’s Eve, Atallah Younes, a social media influencer from Palestine, found himself at the center of a shocking incident when he filmed himself launching a firework aimed directly at a child’s bedroom window. The explosive projectile struck the apartment located on the third floor, leading to severe consequences for the influencer.
This careless act occurred in Neukölln, a suburb of Berlin, and resulted in Younes’s swift arrest. Authorities apprehended him while he was attempting to exit the country at Berlin airport, following an intensive search led by the State Criminal Police. The police issued a statement regarding his actions, which could classify as serious arson, potentially resulting in imprisonment if convicted.
Younes Offers Apology for the Firework Incident
In the days following the incident, Younes took to social media to express remorse towards the child’s family. In a heartfelt video viewed by his substantial following of 500K on Instagram and TikTok, he sat down alongside the child’s father, Abu Muhammad, to issue an apology.
“I realize I was in the wrong; it wasn’t my intention. I truly don’t understand how the firework ended up flying into your window,”Younes explained. He further stated, “We extend our apology; I hope you can forgive us, Abu Muhammad.”
Although Younes deleted his initial post addressing the incident, various social media users managed to recover the footage, which prompted widespread debate. Many viewers expressed skepticism regarding his claim of innocence, suggesting he must have known the direction in which he was aiming the firework.
Comments ranged from asserting intentionality—”That was deliberate. He aimed right at the window” —to calls for severe legal repercussions, including suggestions that he should be charged with attempted murder. Others critiqued the rationale behind aiming a firework anywhere but the sky.
As the case develops, it remains to be seen how the court will interpret his actions, especially given the significant public outcry and scrutiny surrounding this contentious incident, which has captured the attention of over ten million viewers of his viral video.
