Brandi Botello Seeks Support After Police Seize Her Pet Monkey
Instagram influencer Brandi Botello is reaching out to her followers as she navigates a challenging situation following a car accident in Dallas, Texas, that resulted in the seizure of her pet spider monkey, Jorgie Boy. The accident, which occurred on November 9, 2024, involved Botello as a passenger in the vehicle at the time.
Reports indicate that Botello was inebriated and passed out while clutching Jorgie Boy when law enforcement arrived. Despite her claims, she has been charged with DWI. According to Botello, the driver was a male acquaintance, who also faced public intoxication charges due to his severe state of inebriation.
Animal Control Takes Custody of Jorgie Boy
As a result of the incident, police removed Jorgie Boy from Botello’s care. He was subsequently transported to the Irving Animal Control Department, where veterinarians diagnosed him with rickets, a bone condition caused by a lack of essential nutrients. Currently, he is being treated at a wildlife sanctuary, the name of which remains undisclosed.
The Dallas Morning News reported that Funky Monkey Ranch, the identified sanctuary, revealed that Jorgie Boy weighs just six pounds—significantly lower than the average weight for his species. Additionally, he was found to have suffered from minor fractures in his bones along with elevated liver and pancreatic enzymes.
The sanctuary’s management has stated that they do not plan to return Jorgie Boy to Botello, citing concerns for the monkey’s well-being.
Legal Considerations and Community Response
While Texas allows the ownership of certain exotic animals with the appropriate permits, the city of Irving prohibits residents from keeping wild animals, complicating Botello’s ability to reclaim her pet. In light of these developments, she has turned to social media to voice her distress.
Botello shared her emotional struggle with her supporters, expressing feelings of loneliness and despair. “This ugly, depressing, lonely feeling I have is the worst… I’m not going to stop trying!”she wrote, emphasizing her deep bond with Jorgie Boy.
She further articulated her commitment to being a responsible pet owner despite her recent misstep, stating, “I know I’m a good mom … WE ALL KNOW that!” In a bid to cover potential legal fees and veterinary costs, Botello has launched a GoFundMe campaign, which has raised over $3,790 toward her goal of $20,000.
As this story develops, the community watches closely, highlighting the fine line between personal accountability and the care of exotic pets. This incident raises significant questions about the ethical implications of keeping wild animals as companions and the responsibilities of their owners.
