Instagram Model Escapes Jail Time Following Arrest for Smuggling $190K in Drugs

An Instagram influencer is making headlines for evading prison time after being caught smuggling a staggering 88 pounds of cannabis into the UK. The incident unfolded at Manchester Airport, where customs officials intercepted 27-year-old Olga Bednarska upon her return from a lavish trip to Thailand.

Bednarska, recognized for her appearance on the Netflix reality series Too Hot to Handle, had packed her own luggage, as she claimed, but stated that a friend known as “Tex” had asked her to transport high-end clothing and watches. This same acquaintance allegedly funded her travel expenses.

Upon inspection, Border Force officers uncovered multiple vacuum-sealed packages of cannabis hidden within her clothing, valued at an eye-watering $189,750.

Influencer Turns to Drug Smuggling Amid Financial Struggles

As reported by the Manchester Evening News, prosecutor Samuel Eskdale detailed how Bednarska initially insisted she had packed everything herself and denied being asked to carry contraband. However, after customs officers requested the unlock code for her suitcase, her claims began to unravel. She eventually admitted that the suitcases were given to her at the airport.

Despite pleading guilty, Judge John Potter chose not to impose a jail sentence on the Instagram influencer, who boasts over 111,000 followers on social media. Instead, she received a 20-month suspended sentence, coupled with a mandate to complete 15 days of rehabilitation activities.

Judge Potter remarked, “I am not going to send you to prison – that will mean you will be released from custody. Over the course of the last few years, you have found yourself in financial difficulties… You have simply lived beyond your means.”

Bednarska’s decision to smuggle drugs appears to have stemmed from financial desperation. After being treated to a free trip funded by others, she was reportedly paid nearly $23,000 for her role in introducing goods from Thailand.

Judge Potter expressed concern over the broader societal impact of drug trafficking, stating, “I am sure you can imagine the harm that wholesale value drugs have on our communities when they are sold for profit. You have directly contributed to this by agreeing to do what you did.”

This incident raises questions about the intersection of social media fame and legal repercussions, as Bednarska is not the first influencer to encounter legal trouble. Earlier this year, a separate influencer faced charges related to a multi-vehicle accident that resulted in two fatalities and later admitted to being under the influence of drugs, claiming she was “from the future.”
