International Fans Call for Boycott of Korea Following Suga Scandal

Despite Suga’s involvement in a scandal for driving under the influence, both Suga and BTS have been greatly impacted by the incident. Suga has faced public backlash and a portion of fans are currently boycotting and calling for his removal from the group.

There has been some worry that Suga may face a ban from being broadcasted in South Korea. This concern has arisen due to the fact that sharp-eyed viewers have observed tvN cable network obscuring Suga’s image during a BTS photo segment on a reality show.

Consequently, a large number of international BTS fans have voiced their displeasure and are advocating for a boycott of South Korea. This matter has since gained widespread attention.

A few of the most frequently visited posts on app X are:

  • “Can we stop supporting South Korea? They don’t deserve it.”
  • “This is why South Korean media has been slandering and attacking Yoongi for nearly a month. To satisfy their egos. I want that country to fall at any cost.”
  • “Let’s start boycotting their products except for BTS. This fandom is larger than South Korea’s population. I stopped watching their films months ago.”
  • “I had planned to travel to South Korea in June 2025 to attend the Festa festival and see the members discharge. However, after South Korean media lied about, undermined, and deceived Min Yoongi, my enthusiasm for South Korea has greatly diminished. Instead, I’m thinking of saving money to visit countries I haven’t been to.”
  • “I’m no longer interested in visiting South Korea. The beautiful history and culture that Bangtan has shown us have easily been overshadowed by the horrible image created by the government and media in recent years.”

In the past, supporters of BTS also popularized a hashtag calling for an apology from South Korea following accusations of dishonesty against the group.

Similarly, a project banner arranged by I-ARMY (International ARMY) was unveiled on August 23 outside of HYBE headquarters, demonstrating unwavering support for BTS member Suga. The banner, adorned with sincere messages, highlights the powerful and lasting bond between BTS and their worldwide fan community, ARMY.
