According to star Mackenzie Davis, the remake of the Danish horror film Speak No Evil, which features a notorious twist ending, doesn’t lose its impact despite the trailer potentially giving it away.
Ever since the trailer for Speak No Evil’s 2024 remake was released, it has sparked a lot of discussion – though not all of it positive. Some viewers have criticized the trailer for giving away a major plot twist from the original Danish movie, contributing to a concerning trend in Hollywood. (Caution: spoilers ahead!)
In the preview for the 2024 horror film, a scene is depicted where the young boy in the movie opens his mouth and mimics a cutting motion with his fingers.
This effectively reveals the major plot twist of the original film’s ending: the boy has been abducted and had his tongue removed to keep him from exposing the deceitful couple (posing as his parents) who are now targeting their next victims.
Of course, this caused outrage among fans of the original. However, Mackenzie Davis, who portrays Louise in the new film, believes that spoilers should not be a cause for concern. This applies to all horror movies as well.
“She stated that trailers inevitably reveal key plot points, making it impossible to be surprised by the villain or any other elements in a movie. However, she believes the leaks do not affect this particular case as she does not want to be spoiled anyway.”
Plot twists are a common occurrence in modern horror. Many of the most notable films in this genre are known for their unexpected and sinister revelations. Speak No Evil, which was first released in 2022, perfectly exemplifies this trend.
The ending of the film is so impactful that it remains ingrained in the minds of audiences, especially parents, long after they have left the theater.
The movie Speak No Evil will debut in theaters on September 12, 2024.
