Interview with Tiffany Young about filming first kiss scene in Uncle Samsik

On June 26th, Tiffany Young had an interview at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul where she discussed her thoughts on Disney+’s original series “Uncle Samsik”after its conclusion.

“Marking veteran actor Song Kang-ho’s return to television after 32 years since his debut, “Uncle Samsik”follows the story of Uncle Sam-sik (Song Kang-ho) who manages to have three meals a day even amidst war, and Kim San (Byun Yo-han), a determined individual aiming to create a society where everyone can thrive. Together, they navigate through a tumultuous era, striving to make their dream a reality.”

Tiffany Young starred in the drama called “Rachel Jeong”where she played a lead role alongside Kim San. While working with her co-star Byun Yo-han, Tiffany expressed, “I admire his passion and tried to absorb it as much as possible. Although he was intimidating at first, I approached him as my true partner and matched his level of passion to create a great chemistry. I am proud of the creative ideas and scenes we developed together. Thanks to Byun Yo-han, I learned how to channel my energy in acting and how to maintain it for a long time in my career. He is incredibly talented and I aspire to be like him – an actor who not only has great chemistry with co-actors and staff, but also

Tiffany shared her thoughts on the skinship scenes, saying, “Filming multiple scenes in a day, I would often think, ‘Okay, onto the next one.’ Our chemistry and focus as partners was great. However, senior Song Kang-ho would playfully tease me, jokingly saying, ‘When Rachel came, Kim San didn’t even glance at Joo Yeo-jin.’ Despite my lack of experience, I had a great time on set. The first kiss scene was passionate and intense.”

During filming, actor Byun Yo-han’s beard made the scene almost like an action scene. After doing multiple takes, my face and lips became puffy. We had to film different lines for episodes 9 and 12, and there was a secret that couldn’t be revealed until later, so we had to do multiple takes and shoots. The lighting also changed slightly. To avoid feeling embarrassed, we filmed with a minimal number of staff members, similar to a group dance scene. Despite the pressure of being the last character to join the team and having many scenes to shoot in one day, I remained focused and didn’t speak much.

Upon calling Tiffany “English teacher”, Byun Yo-han received praise for his language and accent. Tiffany shared that he scored 100 points on his test, with almost 90 points, after practicing various styles and rhythms. To achieve a more authentic sound, Tiffany researched and imitated the speaking style of a Korean person from a different era. Byun Yo-han quickly caught up and understood everything despite Tiffany speaking in English, showcasing his impressive language skills. Additionally, he is also skilled in Chinese, leading Tiffany to compliment his overall proficiency in language and accent.
