Gameplay Explained
Chained Together shares many similarities with Only Up, another popular game where the objective is to climb up unconventional surfaces and reach the highest point. While it is possible to play alone, the true enjoyment, or frustration, arises when you join in the cooperative mode.
Four players can join forces and the game will be adapted accordingly. The catch is that all players will be linked together, so a single mistake by anyone could result in the entire team’s downfall.
To successfully escape hell, it is crucial to climb as high as possible and meticulously plan each move due to the realistic chain physics.
Chained Together Platforms
At its release, Chained Together is only accessible on PC through Steam. The developers have not disclosed any plans for the game to be released on Xbox, PlayStation, or Switch consoles.

Chained Together Modes
Within the game, there are a variety of gameplay modes to select from, totaling three options.
- Beginner – If you fall, this mode allows you to open the pause menu and teleport back to the highest point you last reached.
- Normal – If you fall, start over.
- Lava – You’ll be constantly chased by lava so climb up quickly.
The Autosave feature is available in both Beginner and Normal modes. However, in order to resume your progress, you must select the same mode and team when logging in again.
An additional aspect to consider is the option to maintain Opened and Closed Chains. Opened Chains refer to a scenario in which all players are arranged in a line, with the player at the front holding the most control. The first player is also expected to take on the role of leader.
In Closed Chains, individuals possess complete control over their movements, but it requires a higher level of coordination.
How to Play Chained Together with Friends
To form a lobby, first click on Play in the main menu and then select Host a Game. From there, you can customize the lobby with various gameplay modifiers and create a password. Make sure to share the lobby information with your friends so they can join in.
Alternatively, if you have the 1.7.3 version, you can create a session and use the shortcut Shift + Tab to access the Steam overlay and invite your friends.
Can You Play Local Co-Op Multiplayer?
As long as the same computer is connected to all input devices (up to four), you and your friends can play Chained Together on the same screen locally.
How long to beat Chained Together
Although the game has not been completed by many players, streamer Wavybenji and their team managed to reach the top in 3 hours and 33 minutes in Beginner mode.

Previous teams who have successfully reached the summit have recorded finish times ranging from 7 hours and 51 minutes to 4 hours and 58 minutes.
The likelihood is high that speed runners will establish new record finish times in the near future, but on average, it should take you approximately 3-5 hours to finish Chained Together. However, if your team lacks coordination, there is no telling how long it may take.
