Investigation into TikToker’s Fake Mukbang Videos: He Would Be Dead

A popular social media influencer has recently been revealed to have staged his mukbang videos, as experts have deemed the amount of food he claimed to have eaten as unrealistic.

Initially gaining traction in South Korea, mukbang videos feature individuals consuming large amounts of food in a single sitting.

Despite being a part of the genre, a TikToker has recently faced criticism for sharing deceptive content.

Wally, known as ‘wallywhatthe’ on his online platform, focuses his content on filling a 100-liter fish tank with food or drink and consuming it all. Each video ends with him revealing the duration of the mukbang, which ranges from eight to 12 hours.

Despite the fact that all of his videos have received millions of views, users on the platform have raised doubts about the authenticity of Wally’s content since his initial post on April 25.

One TikTok, in particular, caught a lot of attention as it featured Wally consuming a staggering amount of the energy drink, Monster, in only 12 hours. This led to widespread doubt, with many claiming that the video “must be fake”and that Wally “would have died”if it were true.

One person estimated that the caffeine content was around 17 grams (or 17,000 milligrams). Another person suggested that the liquid might actually be nothing more than colored water.

Wally’s viral videos on the platform, which were deemed “wild”, sparked concern about potential imitators. However, experts were quick to debunk any doubts about the authenticity of Wally’s mukbangs.

Blake, known as ‘thenutritionnarc’ on TikTok where he shares health and fitness content, took it upon himself to “break it down”and calculate the numbers in Wally’s “100 liters of strawberry vs guy”video.

“According to Blake, this appears to be 150 pounds of fresh strawberries. He further noted that even after accounting for the stems, Wally would have still eaten around 135 pounds, equivalent to approximately 20,000 calories.”

“I refuse to believe that this is real, regardless of the fact that it has been 12 hours, it is strawberry flavored, and mostly water. A 0% chance of this being possible.”

Following its release, Wally’s latest video has deviated from his usual content. It now features a warning at the start stating that the video is “performed by professionals”and should not be replicated.

In addition, a disclaimer was included at the end. Rather than just stating the duration of the mukbang, Wally disclosed that he had consumed the food in small portions over the course of several days.
