Investigation Launched into Alleged Military Service Deal Involving Song Mino
On December 24, the Seoul Mapo Police Station confirmed that a complaint has initiated an investigation into a possible “military service deal”involving Song Mino and L, the manager of the Mapo Resident Convenience Facility, where Song served as a public service worker.
This action follows an earlier public complaint addressed to the National Sinmungo, which accused Song Mino of manipulating attendance records during his service. As part of the inquiry, police have requested to preserve relevant CCTV footage from the facility, which may reveal critical details.
Allegations of Misconduct and Preferential Treatment
The investigation underscores concerns regarding L’s alleged improper role in influencing Song Mino’s duty reassignment. Citing the 2024 Public Service Worker Manual, the complaint notes that reassignments due to health or psychological reasons are typically restricted within institutions that can accommodate internal adjustments. The inquiry is investigating whether L may have unduly impacted this process.
Additionally, testimonies from whistleblowers suggest that Song Mino may have received special advantages during his service. Questions have arisen about the circumstances under which L, having recently transferred to the Mapo facility, facilitated Song’s assignment there shortly thereafter. This raises suspicions of a potentially orchestrated arrangement designed to provide Song with lenient working conditions, indicative of a “military service deal.”
Demands for Comprehensive Investigation
The request for investigation emphasizes the need for a detailed examination of the relationship between Song Mino and L. Authorities are urged to obtain warrants to access their communication records, financial transactions, and attendance logs to clarify the allegations.
Recently, Song Mino, who completed his alternative military service on December 23, has faced claims of absenteeism, particularly after an international trip in October and during his final day of service. Additional accusations from colleagues suggest that he regularly missed work, received undue privileges due to his status as a celebrity, and did not adhere to dress code standards.
Response from YG Entertainment
In response to the unfolding situation, Song Mino’s agency, YG Entertainment, remarked, “It is challenging to confirm detailed information regarding the artist’s service. However, the sick leave taken was for ongoing treatments initiated prior to service, and all other leave requests were made in line with regulations.”
Both the police and the Military Manpower Administration are actively probing these claims. Meanwhile, both Song Mino and YG Entertainment have committed to monitoring the developments of the investigations closely.
