Invincible Creator Discloses That Series Completion Could Take Over a Decade

If Robert Kirkman, the creator of Invincible, had the final say, viewers would be treated to an extensive run of new episodes to fully develop the narrative. The animated series, which is based on the acclaimed comic series co-created by Kirkman and Ryan Ottley, made its debut on Amazon Prime Video in 2021. Since then, it has garnered immense popularity, leading to spin-offs centered around its supporting characters, suggesting that the universe of Invincible is ripe for further exploration.

Creator Envisions Several Additional Seasons for Invincible

In a recent interview with Collider during their Inside Hollywood panel, Kirkman shared his strategic vision for the series. He noted that although the adaptation could closely follow its original comic, the overall length of the series could range from seven to ten seasons, indicating a potential runtime extending over the next decade. Kirkman clarified, “The way Simon and I have mapped out, we would kind of follow the comic and identify where the breaks would be, roughly eight seasons.”

When pressed by moderator Steve Weintraub about the ideal number of seasons, Kirkman humorously remarked, “Could be seven, could be ten… Or nine. I can be greedy.” This playful candor reflects his commitment to delivering a comprehensive adaptation for fans.

With the third season slated to premiere on February 6, 2025, Kirkman’s aspirations suggest that viewers might anticipate a total of 4 to 7 additional seasons before the narrative arc concludes. He expressed a desire to expedite production, aiming for a release cadence of approximately one season per year; however, he acknowledged that the timeline might fluctuate, potentially extending to 12, 16, or even 18 months between seasons as they finalize the production schedule.

If Amazon Prime Video aligns with Kirkman’s vision, new episodes of Invincible could continue to grace our screens well into the next 15 years—provided production timelines remain consistent. As anticipation builds for Season 3, fans can also look forward to a possible feature film, which would add even greater depth to the franchise.
