In 2019, Amazon released the first season of The Boys, adapting the comic series by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. Its immediate popularity, reinforced by its violence as surprising as it was gory, showed that the general public was ready for more mature superhero content, without necessarily being content with a gloomy and dark atmosphere as for Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight..

Two years later, the streaming platform launched Invincible, an animated adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s comics. With a very disturbing opening episode, the series made it clear where it wanted to go, and found an enthusiastic audience, demanding a new season to continue the bloody adventures of the heroes and villains.

And while the wait may have seemed interminable, Amazon has heard fans’ prayers. Not only will we be entitled to season 2 of Invincible, but the platform has also announced a third season. With many horrific twists and turns in Kirkman’s original comics, it’s easy to see that there’s a lot of ground to cover in the Invincible universe.

Invincible season 2 release date: when will we finally see Mark and company again?

Season 2 of Invincible will premiere on November 3, 2023, on Prime Video.

In an interview with Collider, Kirkman said that “the production schedule is somewhat daunting. We have spent several years developing and working on this season. As we move forward, hopefully into season 2 and beyond, things will tighten up.

In a more recent interview with Inverse, Kirkman addressed the long wait for Season 2. “Animation takes a long time in general, so that’s a lot of the reason we wait. The pandemic and the lockdowns and everything else came at the worst possible time, in terms of ramping up after Season 1 and ramping up for Season 2. It complicated the process and delayed things. (…) But we are very enthusiastic. I wish I could say more, but that time will come, and I’m really looking forward to it because I hate answering questions in a very frustrating and vague way.”

Steven Yeun, who plays the show’s main character Mark Grayson, aka Invincible, revealed that he began voice work on the second season in April 2023. In a clip posted by the official Invincible Twitter account, Yeun could be seen and heard saying, “I can’t wait to do more…” before the video cut to credits.

In an interview with Discussing Film, Omni-Man actor JK Simmons revealed that he is expected to return to the recording studio for season 2 very soon: “I’m allowed to say that we’re going back to work very soon. soon in the recording booth.”

Yeun also told Collider: “[Robert Kirkman] is super excited. He thinks season 2 will be even better than season 1, which I have no doubt about. (…) If you go back to the source, Invincible is an incredible comic and just thinking about everything that hasn’t been told yet in this series, it’s going to be crazy. I’m really excited.”

Invincible Season 2 Trailer: Is there a trailer?

A teaser for season 2 was released on July 21, 2023, revealing that new episodes will arrive on November 3, 2023.

A promotional video for Invincible Season 2 was also released earlier in the year, showing Invincible and Allen the Alien at a Burger Mart discussing the upcoming season.

Invincible season 2 cast: Who will be in it?

Yeun and Simmons will reprise their roles as Invincible and Omni-Man, respectively.

The following actors will return to the cast of Invincible season 2: Sandra Oh as Debbie Grayson; Zazie Beetz as Amber Bennett; Gillian Jacobs as Samantha Eve Wilkins/Atom Eve; Andrew Rannells as William Clockwell; Walton Goggins as Cecil Stedman; Jason Mantzoukas as Rex Sloan/Rex Splode; Ross Marquand as Rudy Conners, Kursk and Bi-Plane; Seth Rogen as Allen the Alien; Zachary Quinto as Robot, among others.

A bunch of other names are also slated to join the cast, including Sterling K. Brown, Peter Cullen, Rob Delaney, Calista Flockhart, Phil LaMarr, Luke MacFarlane, Tatiana Maslany, Scott McNairy, Jay Pharoah, Ella Purnell, Tim Robinson, Ben Schwartz, Rhea Seehorn, Lea Thompson, Paul F. Tompkins, Shantel VanSanten, all announced in the July 21 trailer. We know that Brown will play Angstrom Levy, Invincible’s archenemy.

Josh Keaton is also expected to make a particularly intriguing appearance. Fans are already convinced that he could reprise his role as Spider-Man for a surprise cameo, or maybe even more.

Invincible Season 2 Plot: What Should You Expect?

After failing to assassinate Mark and enslave the human race for the Viltrumite Empire, we saw Omni-Man fly off into space, to an unknown destination.

Cecil has asked Mark to serve as Earth’s new defender, so season 2 will likely chronicle his efforts to protect the world from Viltrum’s assaults, while aiding the Coalition of Planets. There’s also the small matter of the Martians who managed to infiltrate Earth thanks to an astronaut, and, even more frightening, Mark’s efforts to finish high school and maintain a stable relationship with Amber.

Speaking to The AV Club, Kirkman said that the ending of the season 1 finale already offered a lot of clues for the plot of Invincible season 2: “With the editing, I really wanted to remind the audience of the many narrative threads we had and reveal to them that everything that happened in season 1 matters. (…) Even small details will play a big role in the future. I wanted to include a lot more of these moments, but it was getting ridiculous.”

“It also makes it seem like Nolan is out of the picture at the moment, so Mark no longer has a mentor, but the problems are still there. Now we will have to see a very different Invincible in the future, who has to learn everything on his own. It sets the stage for future seasons to be different, which is what you expect from a show like this.”

Kirkman also teased the arrival of Angstrom Levy, one of Mark’s main enemies in the comics. While speaking at Skybound Xpo’s Invincible panel, he explained: “[Levy] really shakes things up. If you’re familiar with the comics and have watched the show, you’ll have an idea of ​​where we’re going in season two, especially if you think carefully about how we adapted the story in season one. “
