iPad Mini 7 Rumors Swirl as Signs of Refreshed Tablet Build

Apple has not made any updates to the iPad Mini since 2021, but this could potentially change in the near future. The limited availability of iPad Mini models in Apple Stores indicates that a new version may be in the works.

On X, Mark Gurman, a Bloomberg journalist and experienced Apple leaker, reported that the iPad mini is in short supply in multiple configurations at Apple Stores. According to Gurman, the device is facing internal constraints at Apple.

There are two possible explanations for this. One is that Apple may have plans to discontinue the iPad Mini 6, which was first introduced in 2021. However, this seems improbable as there is currently no replacement for it. The other, more plausible scenario, is that Apple is getting ready to unveil an upgraded version – the iPad Mini 7.

Gurman concurred with the second reason, proposing that it could indicate the upcoming release of a new model. He also mentioned that he would not be surprised to see it being updated for AI purposes.

Apple revealed that its Apple Intelligence suite will include AI capabilities for iPhones, iPads, and Macs. However, these functions are restricted to devices with either the A17 Pro or newer for iPhones, or the M1 chip or newer for iPads and Macs.

If Apple decides to upgrade the iPad Mini for AI, it is expected to come with either a new M-series chip (possibly the M2) or the A17 Pro chip from the iPhone. Additionally, there is a chance that it may include the upcoming A18 chip.

Recent reports have announced that the release of the iPad Mini 7 has been postponed until 2026, and it is expected to feature an OLED display upon its debut. There have also been rumors circulating that the Mini will be replaced by a foldable tablet.

Recently, Apple unveiled the M2 chip-powered iPad Air and OLED iPad Pro at their Let Loose event. While there is no confirmation of the release of the iPad Mini, it is possible that it will be announced at the upcoming ‘It’s Glowtime’ event on September 9th.
