iPhone 16 Camera Specs Leak: Disappointing News for Non-Pro Users

A recent leak has revealed the camera specifications for the upcoming iPhone 16 and 16 Pro variants. While the Pro models are slated for improvements, the other versions may not receive the same benefits if the leak proves to be accurate.

According to Apple Insider, the camera specifications for all four iPhones set to launch in September have been uncovered. While the publication largely confirms existing information, it also discloses previously undisclosed details.

According to the report, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will continue to feature a dual-camera setup on the back, as previously seen in leaked images. The main wide camera will offer 1x and 2x zoom capabilities, while the additional ultra-wide camera will allow for a 0.5x zoom out function.

According to the report, the primary camera will continue to have a 48MP resolution and an f/1.6 aperture, as well as the ability to capture optical-quality 2x telephoto shots. However, the ultra-wide camera is set to receive an improved f/2.2 aperture, which is faster than its previous f/2.4 aperture. This enhancement is expected to lead to improved low-light photography.

This upcoming change for the non-Pro iPhones will introduce support for macro photography, a feature that has not been available on these models before.

Pro iPhones: The Real Changes

According to Apple Insider, the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max will see significant updates. Despite keeping the triple-camera design, the primary sensor will remain unchanged.

According to the report, the device will have a 48MP sensor with an f/1.78 aperture. It will also have the capability to take 2x optical-quality 12MP telephoto shots and will be equipped with 1.22-micrometer pixels.

The upcoming iPhone 16 Pro will feature a 5x telephoto lens, replacing the previous 3x lens. This lens was previously only available on the Pro Max model. Both the Pro and Pro Max models will now have a telephoto lens equipped with a 12MP sensor and an f/2.8 aperture.

The primary camera on the new device will remain unchanged, but the ultra-wide lens will receive a significant upgrade. Reportedly, its 12MP sensor will be replaced by a 48MP shooter, utilizing the same pixel-binning technology as the primary camera.

According to Apple Insider, the upgraded lens on the Pro iPhones will allow for 48MP ProRAW photos to be captured. Additionally, the two Pro models are expected to have the capability of recording 3K video at 120 frames per second with Dolby Vision. Therefore, if you prioritize camera quality, it may be wise to begin saving now in order to have access to the top-of-the-line camera features.
