Despite Apple’s annual fall event to introduce the new iPhone being just weeks away, there have been rumors and leaks suggesting that the iPhone 17 Pro Max may have even bigger upgrades in store.
According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone 17 Pro Max will be the only model in the upcoming phone lineup to come with 12GB of RAM.
The speaker indicated that the remaining devices in this series will feature a mere 8GB of RAM, implying that Apple intends to uphold the distinction between the iPhone 17 Pro Max and the rest of the collection.

This extra RAM is expected to greatly improve the device’s ability to handle AI-intensive tasks, making it a key feature. The individual known as “he”on X (formerly Twitter) shared that the enhanced on-device AI capabilities are likely to be a major factor in the success of the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
Furthermore, Kuo reports that the iPhone 17 Pro Max will feature an enhanced cooling system, utilizing both vapor chamber (VC) technology and graphite sheets.
On the other hand, the iPhones that will be released in 2025 will exclusively utilize graphite sheets for thermal management.
iPhone 15 lineup
According to Haitong International Securities analyst Jeff Pu, who has also shared his thoughts on the matter, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are expected to receive the same upgrade. It is predicted that both models will come equipped with 12GB RAM, while the iPhone 17 and 17 Plus will likely have 8GB RAM.
According to Kuo, the Pro Max devices play a significant role in the sales numbers and make up almost 40% of the new device shipments.
As the Pro Max devices significantly contribute to Apple’s hardware sales profits, the company aims to maintain its “differentiation strategy”by favoring these devices.
