Iris of Grace vs Iris of Occultation on Fire Knight Queelign in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree

The challenge involving Fire Knight Queelign in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree poses a challenging decision near its conclusion. When encountering a grieving Queelign within Shadow Keep, you will be faced with the choice of offering him an Iris of Grace or an Iris of Occultation.

The dialogue and reward you receive will vary depending on your choice. Therefore, it is important to understand all the details about Fire Knight Queelign’s quest and decide whether to give him the Iris of Grace or the Iris of Occultation in the DLC.

Should You Use Iris of Grace or Iris of Occultation on Fire Knight Queelign?

For Fire Knight Queelign, we suggest utilizing the Iris of Occultation. However, the decision ultimately depends on your preferred reward. Opting for the Iris of Occultation will grant you Queenlign’s Greatsword, while giving him the Iris of Grace will result in Queelign transforming into a Spirit Ash, allowing you to summon him during boss fights.

Many players have likely reached the maximum level for their Spirit Ashes and are accustomed to using them before beginning Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. For this reason, we suggest choosing the Greatsword. However, if you prefer to have a Fire Knight in your arsenal, you are welcome to choose the alternative option.

Where to find Iris of Grace

The Iris of Grace can be found in the Specimen Storehouse within Shadow Keep. To reach it, follow the corridor located in front of the prayer room and turn left towards a bridge that leads outside. At the end of the bridge, there is a lift that will take you to the storehouse. Once you arrive, activate the Storehouse, First Floor site of grace to access the Iris of Grace.

You’ll be surrounded by Living Jar enemies after jumping down.

After turning left, continue until you reach another descending lift. When it stops, proceed straight and then turn right. Keep going down the corridor until you encounter an attack from one of the monstrous pot enemies. Enter the balcony where it appeared from, jump down, and you will arrive at the bottom of the Storehouse. The desired item will be directly in front of you.

Where to Find Iris of Occultation

The Iris of Occultation can also be located in Shadow Keep, however, we suggest obtaining it from the Fort of Reprimand instead. To acquire it, simply travel south from Moorth Ruins, pass by the Ghostflame Dragon, and you will reach the entrance of the fort.

After entering, make a left and you will see a hole to jump into. This will lead you to a pit filled with dead bodies. Proceed with caution as you will encounter an Omenkiller enemy. Defeat it to obtain the Iris of Occultation.

Explaining the Fire Knight Queelign Quest

The quest associated with Fire Knight Queelign begins when you first meet the NPC in Belurat, Tower Settlement. Navigate through the legacy dungeon and you will eventually reach the site of grace, known as the Small Private Altar. From here, take the stairs on the right and continue past the Hornsent Warrior. This will lead you to a courtyard with a central tree and surrounded by gravestones.

Besides Queelign, be wary of the Shadow enemies lurking around.

Shortly after, Queelign will enter your game and begin attacking you with discouraging comments. The battle against the Fire Knight is not overly challenging. It is important to swiftly close the distance and take an offensive approach. As he lacks poise, STR/DEX builds should have no trouble interrupting his attacks. However, be sure to roll away when you see him trigger his Ash of War ability by summoning fire around his sword.

Defeating Queelign will grant you the Crusade Insignia. To complete the quest, you must also overcome Rellana, the Twin Moon Knight and enter the Scadu Atlas region. Once you reach the western area, you will see a damaged structure in the distance. This structure, known as the Church of the Crusade, will trigger another encounter with Queenlign when you enter it.

The battle unfolds in an identical manner, except on this occasion, you will be rewarded with the Flame Skewer Ash of War and the Prayer Room key.

To continue the quest, you must navigate through Shadow Keep’s Church District. This can be reached by descending into the crater within Moorth Ruins and ascending the ladder to Bonny Village. From there, pass through the village and cross the rope bridges. Continue straight, passing Rabbath’s Rise, until you reach a gateway that will take you to the entrance of the Church District, a site of serenity and grace.

The Chruch District’s streets will be flooded when you first arrive.

To proceed, you must navigate across the rooftops until you reach the large opening that allows you to leap onto the rafters. From there, scan your surroundings carefully and you will notice a balcony on the right with a nearby door. Descend to the balcony and use the Prayer Room key to unlock the door, where you will discover Queenlign lying despondently on the floor.

Conversing with the NPC will result in a conversation, during which the Fire Knight will plead for a small amount of Marika’s light. In order to end his suffering, you must obtain either the Iris of Grace or the Iris of Occultation.
