Korean netizens suspect that Shuhua, a member of (G)I-DLE, might be preparing to end her career as an idol.
On May 16, 2024, a post titled “Is Shuhua leaving Korea?”was published on the popular South Korean online community forum Nate Pann, causing a stir among netizens.
The post included numerous Instagram Stories and posts from Shuhua, shared by the original poster. It was observed that starting from May, all of Shuhua’s social media updates have been in Chinese, and she has been collaborating with Taiwanese brands and media companies.
According to the original poster, Shuhua has significantly reduced her posts in Korean and is no longer interacting with Korean comments. In the past, the idol used to frequently like comments in Mandarin, English, and Korean.
Additionally, it has been reported that Shuhua may not be taking part in (G)I-DLE’s comeback promotions. Although she has made appearances with the group for certain performances, she has yet to fully resume her activities and has been frequently traveling between South Korea and Taiwan.
The original poster questioned whether Shuhua had returned to Taiwan after facing criticism for her live vocal performance, and expressed disappointment in the idol’s lack of reflection on the matter.
Upon learning of the situation, Korean netizens promptly flocked to the comment section to express their thoughts. A common sentiment was that it would be beneficial for her to depart from Korea and return to her country of origin. Others speculated that perhaps her talents were better suited for a different profession instead of being an idol.
Some made jokes about her running away, while others wondered if she was truly abandoning her K-pop idol origins.
Based on the fact that (G)I-DLE has a little over a year left in its contract with CUBE Entertainment, it is reasonable to assume that Shuhua may be considering leaving the group. If she chooses not to renew her contract, it would be in her best interest to pursue a career in her home country. According to Korean netizens, there may be difficulties for her to continue as an idol due to her past vocal controversy.
