Is Hagoromo Otsutsuki’s Alignment in Naruto Good? Explained

It is a common question among Naruto fans whether Hagoromo is a good or bad character, particularly due to his portrayal towards the end of the original manga. However, it can be concluded that Hagoromo is indeed a good character, as evidenced by his actions throughout the series.

The individual known as the Sage of Six Paths is the son of Kaguya Otsutsuki and is widely recognized as the originator of contemporary shinobi.

Hagoromo played a crucial role in supporting Naruto and his companions in their victory against Kaguya, his unsealed mother, during the Fourth Shinobi Great War. However, there are still lingering uncertainties about his ethical stance.

Some fans believe that Kaguya’s rule was primarily benevolent. However, there is also room for interpretation as to whether Hagoromo’s actions ultimately caused more harm than good.

This article includes spoilers for the series, so please proceed with caution.

Explaining how Hagoromo is a good guy in Naruto

According to fans, the legendary Sage of Six Paths’ decision to seal Kaguya while she was ruling the planet was considered a mistake. They believe that this was due to her supposedly “benevolent”rule and that Hagoromo’s mishandling of his sons, Asura and Indra, resulted in centuries of chaos.

Additionally, Indra consistently harbored feelings of resentment and ultimately became known as a destructive figure. This was evident in his various reincarnations over the years.

Despite this, Hagoromo continued to intervene and aid the protagonist and Sasuke Uchiha by bestowing them with the strength to defeat Madara Uchiha and, eventually, Kaguya herself. While some may argue that he made errors, his intentions were never malicious or self-serving. He simply wanted to assist those in need.

After transforming into the Ten-Tails, Kaguya Otsutsuki unleashed destruction upon the world. In response, Hagoromo and his brother Hamura took their first morally upright action by sealing their mother and breaking her Infinite Tsukuyomi. This event marked the beginning of Hagoromo’s role as the first Jinchuriki and the Sage of Six Paths, an important figure in the creation of the shinobi world as it is known in Naruto.

Despite his own family conflicts, Hagoromo remained dedicated to maintaining peace not only within his own family, but also across the world. He constantly encouraged his sons, Asura and Indra, to reconcile and work together. In his last moments, Hagoromo left behind a tablet with a message that could only be deciphered by those with a Rinnegan, urging Indra and his descendants to abandon their path of hatred and animosity.

Afterwards, he would confront Naruto and Sasuke and elaborate on the idea of reincarnation, revealing that they were the modern reincarnations of Indra and Asura. As previously mentioned, he granted them the strength to confront Madara Uchiha.

Despite making mistakes, such as his treatment of Indra, Hagoromo strived to maintain peace and always showed a willingness to assist others, as seen in his actions.
