Is HYBE Forcing ILLIT’s Wonhee to Report Hate Comments for Sympathy Points?

During a livestream on Weverse to celebrate their 50th day since debut, the group ILLIT’s member Wonhee was seen personally reporting hate comments, which garnered sympathy from viewers.

that's it

Despite initial speculation from netizens, many believe that this move by HYBE was planned in order to gain sympathy points. This theory has been fueled by the constant criticism ILLIT receives for their involvement in the ILLIT-NewJeans copying controversy.

During the scene where Wonhee reports hate comments about herself, it was specifically noted that she repeatedly looked off-screen, presumably at the staff. She was then given a phone, which made her the only member to have a phone while the others used a tablet. This was in contrast to other live streams where Wonhee would use a tablet with her fellow members, even when she was sitting at the edge of the group.

Moreover, it is customary for groups to only host livestreams on their 100th day anniversary, leading to doubts about the timing of ILLIT’s livestream.

Despite the supposed “evidence”, numerous netizens hold the belief that HYBE deliberately instructed Wonhee to read hateful comments in order to portray a “pitiful image”for ILLIT.

The following are comments from internet users:

  • Why are they handing her a phone out of nowhere? With everything that has been going on, they totally did it intentionally
  • I feel really sorry for the member, to be forced to read hate comments just for the company’s media play scheme
  • HYBE is really trash…
  • This is so obviously staged. The member was so young and could not act but had to do what was told
  • Shouldn’t they protect the artists by not letting them come on live at a sensitive time like this? They want sympathy points so bad
