The recent release of chapter 266 in Jujutsu Kaisen has evoked a range of emotions among readers – from joy to melancholy. The chapter had been highly anticipated and there was a lot of hype surrounding it. However, fans were not disappointed as it marked the long-awaited return of Megumi.
The chapter provides moments of revelation that not only take the readers on a sudden journey through the characters’ memories (possibly bringing tears to their eyes) but also offer a glimpse into Megumi’s innermost thoughts and his longing for a content and uncomplicated life.
1. Is Megumi finally back in action?
Chapter 266 highlights Yuji’s determined efforts in convincing Megumi to come back. Despite a seemingly unsuccessful heart-to-heart, Sukuna gradually fades into the background as Megumi returns to the forefront of action.
In the opening of Chapter 266, we witness Yuji Itadori extending his hand towards Megumi Fushiguro’s soul. In this poignant instance, Megumi longs for a brighter future for his sister, Tsumiki, hoping for a world where she can live in contentment rather than suffering.
Yuji observes this and has a conversation with him about his personal insights gained over the years. He discusses the inevitability of certain circumstances and individuals who have encountered them, such as Grandpa Itadori, who made the decision not to undergo treatment for his lung cancer due to its adverse effects on his body, understanding that it would significantly shorten his lifespan.
Despite his understanding and deep empathy for Megumi’s agony and despair, Yuji recognizes that he cannot be insincere and ask her to go back to a hopeless world.
Despite the intense battle between Yuji and Sukuna, it is shocking to witness Sukuna’s leg being engulfed in darkness, indicating the reappearance of Megumi. As Megumi’s spirit begins to resist, he and Yuji join forces to confront Ryomen Sukuna.

2. Sukuna vs. Yuji
Yuji is faced with the daunting task of confronting Sukuna, the demon king, who retaliates by unleashing the Hollow Wicker Basket. Despite Sukuna’s incredible strength, he is hindered from utilizing his full potential for various reasons.
Despite Sukuna’s best efforts, he is unable to properly utilize the Reverse Cursed Technique in the midst of the fight. This can be attributed to the residual effects of Gojo’s domain, which lingered from their previous battle. The chapter effectively demonstrates the importance of combat experience, as we witness the strategic use of seemingly weak techniques such as the Hollow Wicker Basket and Simple Domain, which still hold a significant amount of power.
Despite his limited strength and power output, Sukuna persists in maintaining his hand sign posture even after activating the Hollow Wicker Basket. This enables him to continue battling without succumbing to Yuji’s domain. He also repeatedly declares his intent to spare Yuji, stating, “I will eliminate all humans, except for you!”
The battle between Sukuna and Yuji reaches its climax as they both unleash their most powerful combat skills and engage in a fierce clash. Sukuna is filled with fury at the realization that Yuji pities him, a fact that was revealed in the previous chapter when we caught a glimpse into Sukuna’s past.
Upon Yuji informing the young Megumi that he would feel sorrowful in his absence, a change occurs. Megumi’s soul rebels, prompting Sukuna to hastily attempt to submerge it with his ‘Bath’ technique. However, Yuji’s Dismantle renders this effort futile, causing Megumi’s resistance to escalate.
After a shocking turn of events, Sukuna becomes desperate and activates his domain for the second time, but we witness a rare moment of him showing signs of shock. The usually emotionless Demon King of curses is affected by the location of one of Sukuna’s fingers. As the fight reaches its peak, we are left on the edge of our seats, eagerly anticipating what’s to come. While we wait to see what fate has in store for Yuji and Sukuna, let us celebrate Megumi’s return.
