The latest chapter of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, numbered 15 and released on October 21, 2024, brings some thrilling revelations from its protagonist. The anticipation surrounding the return of Momoshiki is mounting, and it appears that his re-emergence could unfold in unexpected ways, closely linked to events from the Fourth Great Ninja War when Black Zetsu betrayed Madara.
Black Zetsu utilized Madara’s physical form to revive Kaguya, a method akin to activating karma. Yet, in contrast to Madara, there seems to be no viable vessel for Momoshiki’s resurrection. Therefore, it’s conceivable that Momoshiki might leverage the Soul Thorn as a conduit for his return, similar to Hidari, to re-enter the universe and engage in the competition over the chakra fruit.

Boruto: Exploring Why Momoshiki Might Not Resurrect Through the Protagonist’s Body Using the Soul Thorn
In the early chapters of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, the protagonist, alongside Kage from various villages, confronted Momoshiki Otsutsuki, who sought to harvest Earth’s chakra fruit by taking control of Naruto’s Nine-Tails chakra. Despite his formidable intentions, Momoshiki was defeated by the protagonist before he perished, leaving behind a life blueprint contained within the protagonist as Karma.
This Karma would lead the protagonist to lose control of his body whenever it was unleashed, allowing Momoshiki to dominate and cause chaos. The protagonist ultimately refrained from utilizing the Karma until the time skip, which illustrated the extent of Momoshiki’s influence.
In chapter 15 of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, a discussion with Kawaki led the protagonist to express that his next use of Karma would result in a complete takeover by Momoshiki. However, this possession might merely serve as a precursor to Momoshiki’s actual resurrection, primarily since the protagonist’s body may not possess the necessary strength for Momoshiki’s revival.
This notion harkens back to the resurrection of Kaguya during the Fourth Great Ninja War within Naruto. Madara, having attained Six Paths Senjutsu and the Rinne-Sharingan, presented a powerful vessel for Black Zetsu’s resurrection. Therefore, the question arises: what medium could Momoshiki utilize for his rebirth? Hints concerning this matter are also present in the Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga.
Chapter 13 revealed that the protagonist’s Rasengan Uzuhiko eliminated Hidari, reducing him to a Soul Thorn endowed with the ability to restore chakra trees to their primal forms. However, Jura collected the Soul Thorn to return it to Shinju’s abode, allowing Hidari to re-enter the world unharmed.
This scenario suggests that the Shinju may already possess a template for one another, implying that as long as a Soul Thorn exists, they could potentially resurrect one another. This framework could conceivably support Momoshiki’s rebirth, wherein he might transfer his Karma from the protagonist to the Soul Thorn, thus enabling him to re-enter the world and ally with Code in the quest for Earth’s chakra fruit.
Concluding Thoughts
While this theory certainly has intriguing potential, it remains speculative, as the lore surrounding the Soul Thorn has yet to be comprehensively explored in the series. Additionally, the idea of Momoshiki not resurrecting within the protagonist’s body could conflict with the established narrative crafted by the author. Thus, it is wise to regard this theory with cautious skepticism.
