During the press conference for Apple TV+’s “Pachinko” Season 2, held on August 23rd at a hotel in Samseong-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, Lee Min-ho discussed his role as Han-su. He described Han-su as a resilient character and shared his goal of portraying Han-su’s inner desires and complex emotions.
“The story of “Pachinko”follows a tale of forbidden love that spans across Korea, Japan, and the United States. It chronicles unforgettable accounts of war and peace, love and separation, triumph and judgment. Season 1 received widespread acclaim, winning 11 prestigious awards at ceremonies such as the Peabody Awards, American Film Institute Awards, Critics Choice Awards, and Gotham Independent Film Awards.”
In the drama, Han-su (portrayed by Lee Min-ho) gains wealth by marrying into a Japanese yakuza family, but he falls for Sun-ja (portrayed by Kim Min-ha). He receives backlash for not revealing his marriage to Sun-ja and suggesting that they live together.
Lee Min-ho clarified that Han-su’s infatuation with Sun-ja and his yearning for a child without being married stemmed from a desire for ownership rather than genuine love. He acknowledged that men’s perception of women was limited during that period, causing Han-su to prioritize his own emotions and disregard Sun-ja’s reactions.
Lee Min-ho jokingly remarked that if Han-su existed in modern times, he would probably not be well-received and receive negative critiques.
Additionally, the second season of “Pachinko”is scheduled to debut on August 23rd.
