Skull and Bones set sail and was immediately compared to Sea of Thieves. But, based on everything we know, how does this new Ubisoft pirate game actually stack up against Rare’s?
Both Skull and Bones and Sea of Thieves are multiplayer games that let you go from rags to riches, despite the darker tone of the first game in contrast to a more whimsical approach in the second.
It will be hard not to compare them, especially since they are games as a service, which means they will automatically compete.
However, both focus on completely different things, so it all comes down to the type of experience you want to have while being a pirate.
That said, if you’re curious if Skull and Bones is like Sea of Thieves, here’s everything you need to know.
The major difference between Skull and Bones and Sea of Thieves
The main difference between Skull and Bones and Sea of Thieves is that Skull and Bones is more focused on the “ship” aspect, while Sea of Thieves offers a complete pirate adventure.
Skull and Bones focuses heavily and solely on naval warfare, while Sea of Thieves sees you playing as a real-life pirate who also goes on treasure hunts and combat outside of nautical combat.
Ubisoft’s game has deeper ship building and customization and much more detailed naval combat, but it lacks meaningful gameplay on land, unlike Sea of Thieves.
Think of Sea of Thieves as more of a pirate “adventure,” and Skull and Bones as a game focused more on pirate “naval battles.”
The two games meet two completely different needs, with the main thing in common being that they put you in the shoes of a pirate.
