Despite a “leaked”Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer announcing its port to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles, it appears to be too good to be true.
Ever since the release of the PS5 and Xbox Series X, fans have been eagerly anticipating a next-generation port of Red Dead Redemption 2. However, Rockstar has yet to announce any new version.
In August of 2024, an online trailer was released and soon became popular. The 44-second clip featured various plot points from Arthur Morgan’s adventure with the Van der Linde gang. The trailer concludes with a message stating, “arriving on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in March of 2025.”

The Misleading Red Dead Redemption 2 next-gen trailer
There is no confirmation from Rockstar about a potential port of RDR2, and there is no indication that the project is currently in development. The company’s current focus appears to be on the upcoming release of GTA VI.
Despite being labeled as a “leaked”trailer, its legitimacy is called into question due to the fact that it was filmed on a TV, a common occurrence for many leaked trailers.
The trailer was initially shared on Reddit before gaining traction on various social media platforms. According to the individual who posted it, they were employed at Rockstar and had been given a sneak peek of the RDR2 trailer. However, it was later revealed that the development of the game had been put on hold in order to avoid conflicting with the marketing campaign for GTA 6.

As GTA 6 is planned for release in Fall 2025, it is improbable that the company would launch RDR2 on next-gen consoles a few seasons prior.
Despite the teaser gaining widespread attention, fans have expressed doubts about its authenticity. “Red Dead Redemption 2 should receive a PS5 & XSX|S version, and I believe Rockstar will eventually deliver one. However, this alleged trailer leak is certainly not genuine,”one user stated.
“Another person joined the conversation, stating that this edit is convincing enough to make people believe it is genuine.”
Even if the trailer is not legitimate, there is no justification for fans not to revisit the Red Dead universe, even if it entails playing on older consoles. RDR2 is considered one of the best games ever created, as evidenced by its second place ranking on our top 100 games list, falling short only to Elden Ring.
