Is UNIS Gehlee & Elisia Being Mistreated? Lack of Lines in TWICE Cover Draws Flak

Some fans are expressing concern for UNIS members Gehlee and Elisia, alleging mistreatment following the group’s online attention for their cover of TWICE’s “What is Love?”.

UNIS dazzled the audience at the KBS Open Concert on May 14, 2024. In addition to their own songs, the girl group pleasantly surprised the crowd with a captivating rendition of TWICE’s hit song “What is Love?”

Despite the excitement surrounding the cover, one aspect stood out to fans: the lack of lines given to the group’s Filipino members, Gehlee and Elisia.

It was a surprise to many when it was revealed that both girls had received praise for their singing abilities while participating in “Universe Ticket.”Moreover, Elisia holds the main vocal position in UNIS, while Gehlee is known as the sub-vocalist and visual of the group. This led to speculation as to why they were not given any lines for the performance.

Despite UNIS having only eight members compared to TWICE’s nine, fans noticed that all the members of TWICE were given lines in their song “What is Love?”This raised concerns among fans about the unequal distribution of lines among UNIS’s members.

Moreover, it was observed that larger girl groups have the ability to distribute lines among their members, ensuring that each member is given a chance to showcase their vocals. This can be seen in groups like IZ*ONE, which consists of 12 members, and the newly debuted girl group tripleS, which has 24 members.

It was speculated that the reason for this could be attributed to the language abilities of the girl. Elisia and Gehlee, both from the Philippines, are not fluent in Korean. However, it was noted that Nana and Kotoko, who are from Japan, also lack fluency in Korean but still had lines in the cover.
