It Ends with Us: Potential Sequel in Jeopardy due to Cast Conflicts

Despite the success of It Ends With Us at the box office, a potential sequel may not be possible due to the widely publicized conflicts between the film’s lead actors.

Colleen Hoover’s highly-debated book-to-film adaptation, It Ends With Us, was poised to topple Deadpool & Wolverine at the box office. This was due to the surge of buzz on book TikTok and the inclusion of former Gossip Girl star Blake Lively in the cast.

Despite not reaching its ambitious target, the movie still achieved a global box office of $204.4 million.

Despite fans’ anticipation for an adaptation of the sequel novel, It Starts With Us, the massive success of its predecessor has not led to the green light for a sequel. The possibility of a follow-up has been ruined by intense drama among the cast.

During the debut of It Ends With Us, director and lead actor Justin Baldoni did not take any photos with the rest of the cast, sparking speculation. Adding to the controversy was the discovery that only comedian Hasan Minhaj was following Baldoni on Instagram, while the rest of the cast was not.

According to Variety, it was revealed that Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, collaborated on rewriting one of the movie’s crucial love scenes. This decision has sparked speculation that it caused a rift between Lively and Baldoni.

According to an insider source who spoke to Variety, the rift between the two parties may have grown too big to allow for a follow-up movie. The source stated, “This is uncharted territory, and there is no clear vision for what a sequel would entail. It is unlikely that these two individuals will collaborate again.”

Baldoni has made it clear that he is ready to step down from the director’s position for the project, stating in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, “I believe Blake Lively is more than capable of directing. That is my opinion.”

Despite Lively and the rest of the cast being willing to create a sequel to Hoover’s work, they face a major obstacle as Baldoni and his production studio, Wayfarer, hold the rights to both novels.
