On May 17th, ADOR clarified HYBE’s statement released earlier in the day, stating that the case of NewJeans’s 2nd EP ‘Get Up’ is not similar to other labels who boost album sales through return conditions or fan events, as claimed by HYBE.
“According to ADOR, Japanese retailer UMJ acquired 150,000 copies through forecasting and consultation of demand, and this cannot be classified as ‘kick sales’ since there were no provisions for returns.”
The fansigning event, which was held on August 20th in addition to the first-week tracking period, was not included in the first-week sales.
On the same day, ADOR’s CEO Min Hee-jin revealed that HYBE had pressured her to artificially inflate NewJeans’s album sales, but she refused during the injunction hearing to prohibit HYBE from exercising their voting rights. HYBE, however, denied the allegations and claimed that Min Hee-jin had also used the same tactic to boost physical sales for NewJeans’s 2nd EP album “Get Up,”causing a stir in the industry.
