itsKatchii Issues Apology Following Twitch Ban for Controversial Salute

Twitch streamer itsKatchii has found herself at the center of controversy following a ban from the platform that occurred merely two days after she made an offensive gesture during a live stream. This incident quickly ignited outrage online, showcasing how quickly public sentiment can shift in the digital age.

On February 4, 2025, itsKatchii participated in a live stream with fellow members of OTK to celebrate the Chinese New Year. However, her portrayal of an offensive salute generated immediate backlash from viewers, prompting widespread criticism across social media platforms.

The day after the incident, Katchii issued an apology, expressing regret for her actions. She acknowledged her recklessness, stating, “I’m done” with drinking after realizing the impact of her “insensitive and just plain dumb” gesture. She emphasized the challenges of being a public figure, highlighting her struggles with constant scrutiny and criticism, saying, “It is hard being online especially when you’re constantly compared and criticized for every single thing you do.”

itsKatchii’s Reaction to the Ban

On February 6, barely 48 hours after the offensive gesture, Twitch banned itsKatchii from the platform. In response to her ban, she took to X (formerly Twitter) to acknowledge the situation, asserting, “Deserved. That was completely unacceptable and insensitive. It’s not funny, it’s not a joke, and it shouldn’t be normalized.” She also recognized her difficulty managing alcohol and pledged to quit drinking.

In her message, Katchii expressed a commitment to reflect on her actions and their impacts: “Taking this time to reflect and be more mindful of my actions and the impact they have. To anyone I offended or disappointed, I’m sorry. See you in 7 days.”

Those attempting to view Katchii’s Twitch channel are met with a message indicating her ban: “This channel is temporarily unavailable due to a violation of Twitch’s Community Guidelines or Terms of Service.”

Twitch’s Community Guidelines prohibit actions that stem from hatred, prejudice, or intolerance, which likely categorizes Katchii’s gesture under its rules regarding Hateful Conduct. Specifically, it states, “Twitch does not permit behavior that is motivated by hatred, prejudice, or intolerance, including behavior that promotes or encourages discrimination, denigration, harassment, or violence.” This includes sharing offensive imagery or symbols, which extends to Nazi-related symbols.

This incident follows a recent pattern of strict enforcement regarding content moderation on Twitch, a trend that was evident just months earlier when OTK co-founder Asmongold faced a ban for making racist comments about the Palestinian people.
