ITZY’s ‘Gold’ Concept Photos Fall Short, Fans Urge JYP to Enhance Members’ ‘Hemeko’ Style

In anticipation of ITZY’s upcoming comeback with their new mini-album titled “GOLD,”JYP Entertainment has faced some backlash from fans, known as MIDZYs, regarding the group’s underwhelming “hemeko”showcased in the recently released concept photos.

As of October 1, JYP has been teasing the start of a new music era for ITZY by releasing a series of teasers and concept images ahead of the mini-album’s launch on October 15.

The first set of photos features members Yeji, Lia, Ryujin, Chaeryeong, and Yuna striking poses against a simple white backdrop. The second batch highlights the group in trendy styles in front of urban backdrops.

Fans have noted ITZY’s signature charm as they graced the camera in these images, which have also sparked discussions in online communities.

However, on Nate Pann, many fans shared their discontent after reviewing the new photos. Many mentioned that the group’s hair, makeup, and overall styling (hemeko) appeared unflattering, detracting from the members’ natural visuals. There is a sentiment that the members seem disjointed in terms of look.

Fans claim that without ITZY’s inherent beauty, the concept could have been deemed one of the weakest. For example, Yuna’s “sea-urchin”hairstyle, which typically doesn’t fare well for many idols, still drew mixed reactions, as did her denim shorts, which some felt skewed her silhouette.

Chaeryeong received compliments for her standout look, prompting fans to urge JYP to provide styles that are better suited for each member, including tailored makeup and hair that enhance their unique individuality.

Here are some of the comments:

  • “Except for their debut days, it seems like they’ve always tried to make pretty girls look ugly. They don’t give the pretty members the best styling, it really annoys me.”
  • “I really don’t understand why they nerfed the visual members with their styling. Why on earth would they do that?”
  • “How can these guys be so bad at ‘hemeko’ every time they make a comeback? I thought they finally got the hang of it with a classy but slightly feminine concept during ‘Checkmate’ and ‘Sneakers,’ but these guys really svck at utilizing their physique and faces.”
