International Divers Criticize IVE’s ‘HEYA’ Choreography

A popular South Korean online community forum, TheQoo, shared a post on May 2, 2024 titled “The reaction from international fans on IVE’s choreography for ‘HEYA’ that is currently receiving a high number of retweets.”

The initial post featured a tweet shared by a fan of K-pop, showcasing a clip from IVE’s performance of “HEYA”on Studio Choom. The clip specifically highlights IVE’s rendition of the chorus section of the song.

The focus of this section is on Gaeul, who performs her part while the other members dance. Despite Gaeul being in the center, it is actually Rei who captures the attention.

During the chorus, Rei is initially positioned on the outer left side of the formation. However, midway through the chorus, she can be seen swiftly moving behind the other members in order to reach her new spot on the right side of the group’s formation.

The presence of Rei running in the background ultimately caused the choreography to appear disorganized. Some questioned why Rei was chosen for that particular spot when Ahn Yujin and Liz were both closer to where Rei was supposed to be. Many even made humorous remarks, comparing Rei’s movements to those of someone participating in a marathon while the rest of the members danced.

The clip quickly spread to Korean netizens, who echoed the same feelings.

K-Netz Opinions on IVE’s ‘HEYA’ Choreography

Korean fans were also disappointed by IVE’s choreography, as seen in the comment section of TheQoo.

Despite not being known for their dancing abilities, IVE’s performance was still surprising. According to Korean netizens, the group appeared out of sync, leading some to speculate that they had not rehearsed the dance enough. This is disappointing, considering their agency, Starship Entertainment, is typically known for providing their artists with impressive choreography.

Many individuals feel that the dance requires more intensity. There were some who were disappointed in Gaeul, with individuals expressing that she did not execute her center part as effectively.

  • “IVE isn’t a group that dances well… But this is still so messy.”
  • “It’s just so-so. It’s a shame, Starship used to have that image of picking good choreographies for their artists.”
  • “I feel like the dance needs to be performed with more performance.”
  • “Wow, I was shocked. Are the moves meant to be off-beat? I feel like I’m going crazy.”
  • “It looks like they didn’t practice that much.”
  • “The center member couldn’t pull off her part. What s ame. I know that they did their best, but if I’m being brutally honest, IVE can’t dance.”
