Despite the confusion caused by IVE’s Jang Wonyoung’s stunning beauty, Instagram’s automated systems have become a hot topic on social media.
The platform flagged a recent post by the star, which showcased a carousel of her captivating photos, for possible use of generative AI. This caused much speculation and amusement among fans and netizens.
The issue arose when a member of Nate Pann, a well-known forum in South Korea, drew attention to an uncommon cautionary message displayed on Wonyoung’s Instagram post.
The label, which was automatically added by Meta’s system, implied that the pictures could have been made or modified with generative AI technology.
This flagging system is intended to identify artificial manipulation in posts, but in this particular case, it mistook Wonyoung’s natural beauty for AI enhancement.
Despite the post only being recently shared, it gained widespread attention and became viral. Numerous comments made light of Wonyoung’s impeccable appearance, jokingly implying that it was the work of artificial intelligence. Her fans’ humorous and surprised responses, such as “She’s so beautiful, she must be AI”and “I didn’t realize Jang Wonyoung was AI, she’s too perfect to be human,”added an element of amusement to the situation.
- “With looks like that, she might as well be AI, LOL.”
“It doesn’t show up because it looks like AI; it shows up if there’s actual AI usage recorded in the photo file, like automatic background filling in Photoshop. It has nothing to do with appearance…”
“It’s going viral, LOL.”
“Because when creating AI, they use Jang Wonyoung’s face a lot, LOL.”
- “Seriously, she’s prettier than AI.”
Conversely, a group of users contended that the cautionary label could be linked to legitimate AI software utilized for manipulating images.
These individuals suggested that the incident could potentially be a deliberate effort to generate hype or take advantage of Wonyoung’s existing widespread appeal.
“According to one comment, there is already widespread awareness that Jang Wonyoung is attractive, leading to criticism of the entertainment company’s attempt to use her for viral purposes. This has sparked concerns about the potential misuse of AI in the industry.”
- “I’d like to see the faces of those who are jealous of Wonyoung and claim she’s not pretty. It seems like I should prepare a bag for the incoming flood.”
- “Viral is nonsense; it’s only full of reverse-viral tactics, LOL. Right after Jang Wonyoung’s reputation improved, the reverse-viral team from 2022 and the DC insect army were reactivated. I know where your backers are. LOL.”
- “If you look at Starship’s operating profit, you’ll realize it’s rare for a company to not use viral tactics as much as Starship. Other companies spend all their money on viral marketing and end up with a 5% operating profit-an empty shell.”
- “Why would Jang Wonyoung need to do viral marketing? LOL. Her recognition is already top-notch. It’s something that rookies or lesser-known people do. Especially Starship, known for its cost-effective operations and not spending money on viral marketing for IPO purposes. LOL. Anyway, haters try so hard.”
- “I’m curious about Wonyoung’s future. And I used to dislike Starship, but seeing them go all the way to America to support her impressed me. LOL.”
According to experts, the warning label could be a result of the widespread use of advanced photo editing techniques, including AI-driven tools, in the industry.
Instagram’s algorithms are able to detect enhancements made to images by these tools that may not be noticeable to the naked eye at first glance.
Despite the claim of AI usage in this case, it is widely dismissed as far-fetched. Critics argue that the AI labels on Instagram could simply be an overzealous reaction by the system to exceptionally high-quality visuals.
