Former DAY6 member Jae candidly discussed his emotions after departing from the group, revealing his heartbreak upon being “erased”from the band despite his contributions.
On September 12, Jae appeared as a guest on the well-known American radio show, “Zach Sang Show.”During the show, he shared updates on his current situation and reflected on his journey as a founding member of JYP Entertainment’s K-pop rock band, DAY6.
Among various questions posed to him, the most striking response came when he was asked about his feelings regarding the release of the EP “Fourever”in March. This marked the group’s first album launch in approximately three years following their military enlistment, celebrating their return as a four-member band.
As the fifth member, Jae expressed his heartbreak and stated:
“Can I just be really honest? It kind of hurt. I understand that it’s like they had this whole analysis and the story behind it, but in my head, it’s hard for me to watch any DAY6 stuff just because it reminds me of a lot of stuff.
For a long time, it was hard for me to even go back to Korea because every time I landed, there was this feeling of anxiety and just unsettlement and I don’t know what it was.”
Jae clarified that while he understood the rationale of the remaining members, his initial reaction was one of frustration. He expressed:
“It felt like someone was trying to erase me out of the history of (DAY6) and it hurts because I literally gave up my career in Korea for that team.”
He elaborated further:
“Now that I’m gone, they’re trying to erase all that. But I understand. I feel like there was never any closure for them on that side and that’s not to the members, that’s more to the label, and if that’s the closure that they need then I guess, so be it. But it’s still going to hurt a little bit.”
