Despite accusing a UFC legend of “ducking”his offer, influencer-turned-boxer Jake Paul remains determined to fight in MMA.
Ever since bursting onto the combat sports scene, Jake Paul has made a significant impact with his impressive performances in the boxing ring. His record boasts notable victories over Tyron Woodley, Mike Perry, and Ryan Bourland, although he did suffer a defeat against Tommy Fury. Widely known as ‘The Problem Child’, Paul has certainly solidified his place in the world of combat sports.
Prior to his highly anticipated bout against Mike Tyson on November 15, Paul attended the PFL press conference for the upcoming fight between Francis Ngannou and Renan Ferreira.
Paul, who had been hinting at an MMA fight in PFL for some time, was questioned about the potential date for his first appearance in the cage by eager fans.
“We have extended offers, but Nate Diaz declined. It all comes down to name recognition. I am eager for an MMA fight, as I believe it would be incredibly entertaining,”he clarified.
The segment starts at 1:09:50.
In a previous boxing match, Nate Diaz and Paul faced off, with Jake emerging as the clear winner. However, in 2023, Jake alleged that Diaz had rejected a $10 million offer for an MMA fight, even though he had previously agreed to it.
“While it is not common for boxers in their prime to transition to MMA, there have been instances of MMA fighters venturing into boxing matches, such as Francis and McGregor. However, I am eager to be one of the first to make the leap into MMA and put my skills to the test. I am ready to bring back my old wrestling skills and take a risk in this new discipline.”
Despite PFL boss Peter Murray’s previous statement that Jake would be making his MMA debut in 2024 with a plethora of potential opponents, it now appears highly improbable due to Paul’s scheduled fight against ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson in November.
According to Jake Paul, the key is to find the perfect opponent. Once he does, he will have the opportunity to showcase his abilities to the world of mixed martial arts.
“He expressed his desire for a big name and a big fight.”
